Up and Close with a Windmill in Melbourne

Hi Ozbargain community,

My nephew has recently become obsessed with big windmills/wind turbine-type structures so I'd love to take him to see one up close and personal over the long labour day weekend here in Melbourne, Victoria.

Would love some suggestions for farms/wind farms etc… where we might be able to get as close as possible to a windmill or a wind turbine. Bonus points if you've got some food or activity recommendations in the area as well.

We're based in Melbourne's outer Western suburbs but I'm definitely happy to drive for a few hours to make it worth it.

We stayed at an airbnb a few years back that hand wind farms on their property. We were able to get very up-close and personal.

Not far from a large windfarm, great shopping, near a Black Coal Mine and other local attractions, about 1/2 hr drive from Phillip Island with the Penguins at night to go "ooh, ahh" at.

        Wonthaggi has the major retailers, Woolies, Big W, Dan Murphies, IGA, Kmart, Reject Shop,Cheap as Chips, KFC, Maccas, Subway, plus all the usual suspects.

13th Beach just outside Barwon Heads. Although the windmill is not operational, you can get pretty close.

Agnes Falls (near Wilson Promontory), there are windmills next to the access road - Silcocks Hill Rd.
