Mechanic Recommendations Land Rover

Hey guys,

I managed to land a 2016 Discovery Sport for 'cheap' from a family member and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good mechanic in Sydney (prefer Western Sydney if possible). It's my first non JDM car so I'd prefer to go to someone who's familiar with the platform if possible.

Cheers!

Might as well go to a Ford Mechanic, it's a 2005 Mondeo underneath (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_EUCD_platform). Junk car.

Weren’t you the guy defending BYD just because Warren Buffett invested in it? According to your link, only the Freelander 2 is built on the EUCD platform. The discovery sport is not a Freelander 2.

After separation from Ford, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) continued to develop the EUCD platform; deriving the heavily modified LR-MS/JLR D8 platforms from it. Variations of the D8 are used for the 2011 Range Rover Evoque, the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport…

So it bears little/no resemblance to a 2005 Mondeo.

Anyway, the Mondeo is fine. The Disco is fine. Don’t listen to burnertoasty.

I wish I could be more helpful with your actual question OP. Best of luck.

        On a lighter note…

If you are selling a 2005 Mondeo

Just like a 2016 land rover discovery sport

Haha! “Price not negotiable - I know what I have”

The Freelander 2 is the same car as the Freelander 1 underneath.

        • +1

Just to repeat myself, the Disco sport is not a Freelander.

          • -2

@jackary: It's exactly the same car. They just remarketed it. It is absolutely not a Discovery.

            • @[Deactivated]: But it’s not. Your own link says as much. And yes, I am aware the Discovery is not a Discovery Sport.

      • -2

It's not a Disco. The Disco is based on the RR Sport chassis. It's a proper off roader. The Disco Sport is a marketing exercise in rebadging. It's a rebodied Freelander 2. No low range, no diff locks, front bias. Just a 2005 Mondeo in drag.

        • You keep saying this but it doesn’t make you right…

          • -2

@jackary: Literally everything I have said in that post is a fact. Tell me what isn't? (Land Rover marketing materials don't count).

            • @[Deactivated]: I’ve answered your question above. I fear we’re going in circles here, and we’re not helping OP at all. So let’s just leave it there. Thanks for the negs though!

@jackary: No you haven't. I've provided a link showing the Freelander/Disco Sport/Evoque all use a LR derivative of the old Ford EUCD chassis that launched with the Mondeo. Your reply was 'your link doesn't show that'. You've not addressed the lack of low range box, front bias or lack of diffs, and literally are in denial that the Disco Sport is a rebadged Freelander. It's not even a new generation. This car is just an exercise in separating fools from their money. But feel free to ignore this, as you planned because you can't back up your bullshit claims.

@[Deactivated]: Jeez man, get some help.

                  • -2

@jackary: Just as I thought, all talk, no proof.

  • Diesel or petrol?

    • +2

Either or, Land rovers don't last long enough to use a full tank.

There is a reason used Land Rovers are “cheap”. The previous owner was probably happy that you gave them something for the car.

And the Discovery “Sport” range was just a rebadging exercise of the Freelander model range that had a terrible reputation as being a garbage quality vehicle. Same garbage, different name.

Don’t bother about finding a mechanic, it will probably be cheaper to just find a nice place to park it and leave it there and just pretend it’s at the mechanic “waiting on parts”. You get that standard “it’s at the shop being fixed” Land Rover feeling, but at a fraction of the price.

They are a very toxic brand in this country. There has been a few court cases against LRA, regarding warranty claims. The claimants actually won their cases.LRA are known to throw owners ‘under the bus’.Terrible company to deal with.

I find it funny that on my drive to work is a "specialist" range rover mechanic. There is always heaps of cars there sitting to be fixed and they quiet often have to park on the main road due to to many.

At least they will always have returning business.

    • Genuine question - is the same true of the newer Land Rovers? I know the older ones had a shocking reputation, but you see so many of them on the road these days - surely a MY22 Evoque, Discovery etc isn’t as bad as their products of old?

      • +1

A MY22 Evoque is the same car as a Freelander 2 or the original Evoque. It's just had slight exterior and interior changes. Identical chassis. All junk. An actual Discovery (not a Sport) is a good car, but as with all Land Rover products, reliability is not their forte.

I was asking pegaxs, you know, someone who actually knows what they’re talking about. I’d say thanks for your input, but I think I made it abundantly clear above that I’m not interested in your opinion. Please - just move on mate.

@jackary: Funny how you're dictating in one half of the thread and asking questions in the other. Just because someone says something that you find offensive because presumably you've been dumb enough to buy an Evoque or Disco Sport doesn't mean it's wrong. You can try and make out I (and all the other people in this thread) who said the same thing are wrong, don't know what we're talking about, but deep down you know we're right.

Don't confuse opinion with facts. This isn't an anti vax thread.

If you got it ‘cheap’ on sell it. Maybe a profit to be made or at least your money back.
