I Just Realised We're Being Taxed Twice

So you're working a job and you get taxed but you also get taxed if you buy or pay for anything with your already taxed money. It should be one or the other but not both.

RAWR.

Yep and seriously it should not be like this. Get rid of income tax and do gst all the way. You tax on what people consume. It's fairer. If someone buys something really expensive they can afford it and pay the tax.

Income tax only discourages people from earning more.

How about this for a new system, a billionaire tax and a carbon tax so people like Clive can pay up.

I heard a good quote… 'We want US taxes and Scandinavian social benefits'. The funny thing here is we could have it all if the government saw some of the benefits of the mining industry instead of lining the pockets of Gina and Clive.

Wait until OP discovers that GST is calculated on top of the fuel excise tax

You're not just taxed twice, you're taxed multiple times on most things.

No, we can get triple taxed in this desolate country, I recently did..

    • Got paid from my work within the tax bracket and paid the % tax
    • bought a PS4 from bigW and paid 10% tax
    • sold it a year later (last month) on Ebay and ebay charged me 10% GST on sale.

That last fraud was requested by that moron FederalTreasurer.

sold it a year later (last month) on Ebay and ebay charged me 10% GST on sale.

On the sale amount, or do you mean their fee contained GST?

And this is why OzBargain is so important for the community: every extra dollar saved is worth significantly more than every extra dollar earned.

Progressive marginal tax rates on income and flat rate taxes on consumption folks!

  • Just don't earn anything or buy anything.

  • Only twice?
