Sony XM4 ANC Degrading over Time?

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that their XM-4 ANC quality is degrading over time? This first experience sound quality was extremely good. Over time the background noises that I would've otherwise not hear could hear.

Maybe your mics are all clogged up? Try using some rubbing alcohol and a toothpick to clean it out

    • I'm tempted to use a vacuum to suck anything visible on the earpad but don't think it's a good idea.

The suggestion on google to use a cloth soaked on soapy water to clean the earpads feels uncomfortable to do too…

currently just cleaning with antibacterial wipes around the earpads

      • Nothing wrong with using a vacuum to get rid of any muck, though you may need something to agitate the area.

Some cleaning products may have an adverse effect on the leather(?) earpads, so stick to rubbing alcohol.

  • Maybe you've just gotten used to it? Had a pair of cheap (~$60) Taotronics headphones, never noticed the ANC degrading over time or anything, and that was over 3 years of near everyday usage.

  • Can’t imagine why a piece of firmware would stop working. Clogged up mic is one option, otherwise the seal might have changed and is letting in outside noise?

    • Seal may be a possibility since I change between wearing glasses and not.

  • I thought the same thing happened to my WH-1000xm3's and there was some talk online and in forums that a firmware update somewhat crippled it but nothing came of it.

Could be just getting used to the anc.
