Free Digital Witcher 2 Copy for Existing Owners

291

Saw this and thought it's a great freebee if you already own Witcher 2. So it turns the standard edition into the collectors edition. Apparently the save games don't work with steam save games, so you have been warned.

Anyway,

If you already own any edition of The Witcher 2 simply enter your product key below and you'll receive The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition on GOG.com. If you don't have an account yet, you will have to create one (it takes less than a minute).

Best of all, the GOG.com version of the game includes the following bonus content:

19 wallpapers.
Exclusive game guide (97 pages).
High quality artbook (232 pages).
Soundtrack (320 kb/s 50 tracks).
14 bonus videos (46 min).
6 making of videos (48 min).
14 avatars.
41 HQ artworks.
Triss Playboy session.
Comic book (50 pages).
Map of The Northen Kingdom.
7 papercraft dolls with game's characters.
Pamphlet & envelope.
The Witcher 2 version 2.0 autopatcher.
Localized extras.

Edit: Since some people were bitching that I was misleading people I've edited the title. All it took was you to click on the link, read the first few paragraphs and work out for yourself that it's not free and that you must already own Witcher 2. I really wonder why I bother to spend 5-10 mins typing up a post, only for people to sit and whinge about it. There really is little incentive to bother to post. So can we all just move along now and get over it.

On a serious note, wonderful to see them providing a DRM free digital copy to retail/steam owners. I have the collectors edition but was thinking of getting the GOG copy just so I wouldn't have to worry about scratching the disk anymore. Now I get it for free!

  • Get it while it's hawt!

This isn't free. I'm disappointed Vladdo.

    • it does say backup copy, so you need to have a valid serial number of the game first.

Free should not be in the title. Downvoting on the basis of a misleading title. It should say 'Free if you bought Witcher 2'

So a bit like a buy one coffee and get one free? Similar deals to those get plenty of positive votes….the fact is you can have the standard version and you get the collectors edition for free. Or you could have the steam version and you can get a fully DRM free version for free. Either way is a big win to the customer.

        • His complaint was at the misleading title, not that buy one get one free offers are bad. The title "'Free' Witcher 2 Backup Copy - $0" doen't really make it immediately obvious it is essentially a buy one get one free offer. Something like "Free Digital Witcher 2 Copy for Existing Owners" may have communicated that beter. From your example, you couldn't post a "Free Coffee - $0" for a BOGOF offer here either.

I do think its a fantastic offer though.

    • haters gunna hate..

    • BACKUP COPY. It's in the title guys. A backup implies you must already have it in order to obtain the backup version. A little confusing for some people to understand, but not worth negging over a title that is still 100% accurate.

EDIT: Now it's been changed so no reason to complain…

Can you give someone your backup copy?

    • I'd imagine so. Copy from GoG is DRM-free.

      • -1

ARG. You could also give someone a pirate copy and that would be just as 'free'. Missing the point.

    • Yes you can, either by letting them register your game key to their GOG account, or you can register it on your GOG account and download it for them - it's DRM free so you can install it on as many computers as you wish (although I recommend supporting the devs and buying a new copy for each friend that is playing it simultaneously).

      • I read it as no you can't - but they won't STOP you.

I can't imagine the software license allows for distribution in such a manner, and as such it'd be a case of you not being allowed to do that, but they won't and can't stop you.

For anything else, theres a lack of terms and conditions on that page that I could see, so I'm not sure what the deal is with say selling the physical copy and retaining the backup after it's redeemed or redeeming the code and associating it with someone else's account. CDProjekt had a bit of a backlash regarding this game and their handling of pirates I believe so I guess they've done a 180 and are now being rather less strict/protective.

I own it but haven't played it yet. By all accounts its a game worth the money but.

  • This topic is very misleading. DRM free does NOT mean free. It means they won't attempt to shove malware at you.

Yes you can port your game to a DRM free version, no you do not get a free 'copy'.

    • The deal does not mention anything about it being DRM free as far as I can see so you are negging for nothing there.

No it's not a free license to the game, but yes it is an alternate free legit version to current owners which gives you another method of obtaining the game, heaps of extras, and it's digital - no worries about losing a disk. It's also the full on collectors edition which some people wouldn't have with their current version.

Let's put it in nice simple terms for you:
Current retail and Steam TW2 owners can now get a legit copy of a DRM free digital version, which is the collectors edition, for free. They are both getting a non-pirated digital copy to do whatever they want with, with added extras even if you didn't own them beforehand. They also both get an alternate method of downloading/installing their game. Retail disk breaks? No worries, get the GOG version. Hate steam or don't want to be logged in to play? Get the GOG version. Just want to download the extras? Same deal.

So with all that in mind, why the neg? OK so you have to already own the game to take advantage of this, but it offers enough extra value to be well worth posting.

    • The title was "'Free' Witcher 2 Backup Copy.."

I didn't mention anything about DRM, and am interested in where that came from? "Backup copy" would imply exactly that, a back up copy just incase whatever medium you had it on previously had been lost. The fact that you now get a DRM free & collectors edition is a bonus.

  • Nice timely offer thanks
I am 1/2 way through Witcher 2 right now.

  • I can't find a serial number anywhere in my retail copy of the game (which I think I probably bought from Zavvi). I guess it's good that I already have a DRM-free version of the game, but how am I going to see a videogame character naked now?

    • google

  • Excellent, i picked up the special edition from Amazon for $9.99. But the GOG deal has even more extras.
    Thanks.
