Can't Buy Panasonic Dehumidifiers in Oz Anymore?

Anyone know what the deal is??

Used to be able to buy them, my sister and father in law both have one they bought in Australia ages ago, and they are fantastically reliable and well-built…both still going strong, in the latter case nearly 20 years on.
Seems like they are still being sold in NZ and elsewhere, just not in Aus :-(

Panasonic left the Australia TV market couple years ago. They may have pared back some of their other products.

I believe Philips is the go-to name brand else go Chinese.

    • What about DeLonghi & Dimplex?

      • Sure, I've still seen their products around shops like JB HiFi.

The purchasing power in Australia is far smaller than we might think it is and lots of brands just aren't bothering with this market anymore. Especially with constraints around ACL coverage increasing costs and exposure.

        • FWIW I like my Dimplex. In hindsight I wish I'd bought the bigger model.

I have it connected to a smart outlet; works well because it resumes operation in the last active mode when powered on.

What Chinese brands do you recommend?

          • @andresampras: We had Dimplex oil heaters in the UK and they were pretty solid.

I don't opt for Chinese brands for any electronics at all. Anker is probably only exception.

  • Maybe ring and ask them

And don’t expect a Panasonic bought today to be made as well as one made 20 years ago.

  • There are a number of things Panasonic doesn't sell in Australia anymore, not sure why. Everything Panasonic I've ever had has been great.

  • Parent company Matshushta was too pedantic and built products too reliable. Too few loyal customers willing to pay for good quality.
Nowadays it is way more popular to buy cheap Chinese made stuff that gets dumped early.
Our is an Ebac and I have no idea where it is made but after nearly 30 years it is still going strong.

  • I replaced my split system aircon several months back. I wanted a Panasonic as we already have one in the bedroom for about 3 years and it works great. Anyhow, it was too difficult to get a Pana this time and had to settle for a 7.1KW Fujitsu. Pana might be dropping out of the aircon market too.
