Anyone Use Infra Red BBQs?

Hello,

We are looking at getting a new BBQ. Just wondering does anyone have experience with infra red BBQs, in particular the Cross Rays?

Was initially looking at getting the Weber Spirit II E-320 but have been also looking at the Cross Rays, which are double the price. Are infra reds worth the money - better tasting food, ease of cleaning, etc. as compared to a traditional gas BBQ?

Thanks.

  • I have two infrared / radiant burners on mine and the rear burner works well for its intended purpose as as a rotisserie burner. The main sear burner is also infrared and works well however both do have the downside that they do require cleaning in a much more detailed and careful manner than a traditional flame burner due to the mesh that is used to cover them and create the effect. They also lose effectiveness when coated with ash / carbon as you can see the "cool" spots caused by it when in use.
The normal cast iron burners are easily cleaned by running them hot to burn everything and then a quick hit with a metal brush to remove the ash and buildup.

  • +1

    ease of cleaning

In all my years I've never come across an easy clean BBQ.

  • I love my Crossray. It cooks quicker and better I find. The instructions for mine say to turn all burners on high with the lid closed for 10mins to ‘clean” it, essentially turning any residue to ash like those ‘self cleaning’ ovens. Seems reasonably easy to do that every use and then do a deep clean once a while.
