A colleague is in need of a new phone, budget is $500. Must be available from local stores ie. JB hifi, HN, Officeworks etc, not Aliexpress and online only stores, can't be paid with stacking giftcards/vouchers/cashback.

Work is buying it as a gift, as he's been with the company's for so many years. He's currently going through chemo, so having a (probably first) smart phone ASAP would be nice.
Samsung galaxy a52 is 549$
The A52-s was below $400 a couple times. Some for sale on gumtree/marketplace for people not caring about new. It's really the best option imho (balance of price, updates, screen, processor, cameras, battery and features).

Not when the Pro has been slightly over budget at $599. Got the Pro and no complaints. Only thing it's missing from being great is SD storage and wireless charging but I easily get over a day out of a charge and don't miss the storage.
Even the mid spec when it's around the $450 mark is decent value. Would only be hard to pass up the Fusion when it's under $300.
