Google Pixel 6 Pro Feedback?

I was thinking to replace my aging Oneplus 7 pro and option weigh-in for Pixel 6 pro.

Owners of this phone could you please share your honest opinion on this phone? I was having mixed opinions due to botched software updates and all the bad press it is getting from everywhere.

TIA

    RE: Software
Yeah it's getting a lot of bad press, but I've been using it since the launch week and I haven't had very few issues. I keep seeing headlines about issues that I've never experienced. I think Google phone fans are just really vocal, but the issues aren't as wide spread as it seems.

The camera's post processing can be a bit overbearing at times, I've found I need to restart it every now and then (Read: Once a month?) to fix minor issues like Bluetooth disconnecting, but ultimately I've had no major issues.
YMMV, I could have a unicorn phone.

On the hardware side of things; I wish it was a little smaller, but that's what I signed up for. The new sensors do great with low light, the zoom lens is good too. Battery life depending on how much time I spend procrastinating could probably get me up to about 2.5 days, 3 at a stretch, but I spend too much time death scrolling to end a day on more than 40% most days.

All in all, I like it, very minor complaints.

+1. Only shitty thing about it is the software. You won't be getting updates on day 1 'cause Google always have problems (so for example, we're still waiting for the March update whereas other Pixels have already gotten it; allegedly coming out on Monday). Sometimes the silent bell profile icon stops showing in the status bar.

My GPS is wonky but that could be just me as I do drop my phone at times; I can't seem to get the figure eight calibration to work. Camera is fantastic, especially the 4x optical and 20x zoom. I also wish the display was smaller (came from a Pixel 4 which was perfect size) b

So you've had a lot of issues?

Honestly, I have always hated Google phones for that.
There is very little QC control, and each update fixes two bugs and introduces four more. And things are much more exaggerated with the Pixel 6/6a/6pro because they're using Google's SoC instead of a Snapdragon (which has a lot more optimisations built in).

Personally, I would pass on it.
Google only updates it for 3 years, and its a buggy mess of a rollercoaster ride (FIX THE BT!!!). As much as I hate bloat, at least Samsung get's a lot of things right… and now they match (or beat) Google for update longevity. So you may as well get the phone which has the hardware you prefer. I'm a big advocate for the Samsung A52-s, great battery life, flagship performance, flagship display, a competent camera, and it has a consumer-friendly features microSD/3.5mm headphone jack/flat display. All of that for under $400 is a steal, even at $600 RRP it is a great value, when compared to the rip-off $1000 prices of these anti-consumer luxury phones.

I've had every Galaxy S series phone until this year, when I decided to give Pixel a try.

    Initial thoughts:

    *Battery is great
    *Camera is awesome
    *The OS is obviously fantastic

However, I do miss a few of the Samsung UI tools. Ie. In your contact list, swipe left on a name to text them and right on a name to call them. I also like the Samsung text app better as well as the feel in hand of the Galaxy S devices.

Had mine since launch, noticed no issues with software at all, honestly haven't heard of any issues on that front (maybe my Pixel is suppressing bad press!)
My only gripes are actually hardware based:
The battery is underwhelming - usually have to charge each night.
Under-screen fingerprint scanner is sometimes slow - I read about how software updates will speed it up, but I've noticed no difference personally.
Both issues are minor in the grand scheme of things, I could probably utilise the battery saver mode to get more than a day of my regular usage out of it, but overall quite happy with its performance. Especially considering its price is a fair chunk lower compared to other flagships.

I bought one at launch and had it for a little while but i sold it as it was pissing me off.
Software was buggy which made using the phone very annoying.
but what annoyed me the most was how damn slow the phone took to charge, google lied saying the phone has 30w charging when they software limit the charging speed so it maxes out at 23w making it the slowest flagship device of the year easily.

Camera was fantastic and the performance was fine with no issues there other than buggy software which may or may not have been fixed as i no longer have it.

I would not recommend it purely due to how slow it charges.

  • I had a Pixel 6, it was slow on games (FPS stutters) with lots of other bugs (WiFi would drop and never reconnect, 4G would drop during calls, fingerprint scanner is so slow, if you run out of battery the finger print scanner stops working all together requiring a complete phone reset, charging is extremely slow and picky - some USB cables won't even be recognised) …

Current One Plus 10 Pro is just so much less hassle :P

    • I currently own Oneplus and would like to try other phones. I was considering Xiaomi 12 pro and Galaxy 22 Ultra. 12 pro has a lot of issues and poor camera and battery life. Don't want to risk it without a proper warranty for a phone which costs as expensive as other flagships.

Will decide between Galaxy 22 ultra or Pixel 6 pro.

The only complaint I have is the fingerprint sensor. It's fine indoors but outside in the sun it's bloody useless.

    • Thanks, you mean because of sweaty fingers?

      • +2

Nope, when it's a sunny day and bright outside the finger print sensor struggles to read your finger print.

        • Strange. Thanks for your reply

@rendev: My old P30 Pro had an optical finger print sensor like the Pixel 6 Pro and it was fast and accurate indoors and out. No idea why the Pixel is so bad, hopefully it can be fixed with software updates as the previous update made the finger print sensor more accurate and a little faster.

I got a pixel 6 outright from Telstra, been using for two weeks. I was using pixel 2 xl before this. Smooth snappy phone, battery is good, easily last a day. First 2-3 days the battery wasn't as good but improved a lot after that. Fingerprint unlock is definitely slow but not to the extent to loose your mind. I haven't got any bugs which seem to be present in some phones. Let's see how it goes.

came from pixel 2xl and been using 6pro since launch day.
havent had any major issues as per press, only downside is battery is good but not great, and the fingerprint sensor sucks. i'd rather keep the physical fingerprint sensor from p2xl.
camera is great, but struggles to focus on close object (lack of macro mode)
the front camera was weirdly rubbish for video call, probably related to the actual app itself. but seems to have improved since then.

I got the P6P on launch day so I've been using it for almost 6 months now and I'm pretty sure it learned all my usage patterns.
    Pros:
    - Stock android feels as good as iOS. I don't customise my phone too much tho so anything simple and easy to use is good for me.
    - Camera is amazing.
    - The google ecosystem is a plus too if you're using other google apps like calendar, keeps, google drive, etc.

    Cons:
    - Software is still buggy and laggy.
    - The at a glance widget is shit. I'm not sure why Google doesn't allow users to remove it when it won't even work for half the time. The weather data dissapears and reappears whenever it pleases.
    - Screen freezes sometimes.
    - Screen refresh rates are inconsistent even after 2 major updates.
    - Fingerprint sensor is a tad bit slow. Occasionally, you might need to try 2-4 times for it to work.
    - The battery life is bad if you're a heavy user around 5hr SOT which sucks because my old iPhone XS max lasts around 7-8 hours with the same usage.
    - No real fast charging option. It doesn't really do 30watts unless the battery is really low.

Overall, I don't recommend the pixel even if you're into the google ecosystem. The issues with this phone almost made me go back to iOS. Get the S22 ultra instead. Planning on selling mine soon.

I've had a Google Pro 6 for about 3 months now. Over time I'm more and more getting less happy with my choice and might even got back to my Samsung S20 Ultra.

I keep getting a System UI crash error. You can select whatever option and nothing actually happens. I looked it up and there are reddit pages with the same issue. Apparently Google are aware of it but it's been happening for about the last two months for me. Others, since release. Again, it doesn't actually affect your phone but it just randomly pops up. I'll get it 4 times a day and then nothing for 2 days.

Apps - My apps freeze or crash because it somehow manages to open multiple windows of the same app. Once I saw Facebook open 3 time and Youtube twice. Because when the app plays up, I go to close it and any other open apps and see a app open again. I truly didn't think that was possible. Maybe I'll screen record it next time.

Screenshots - So I have the Double Tap function to take screenshots as I take a lot of screenshots. I tend to find myself double tapping my phone all over the place with different timings, different pressure and it gets frustrating until it finally does it. Yet, when I'm typing messages, it takes screenshots galore when I don't want it to. It's really weird. I think I might just disable the function but if the feature was perfected, I would love it.

App bubbles. So things like FB Messenger, I have two issues but one may not be Google 6 related. If I am watching a YT video in landscape mode and I get FBM, it goes to the edge of the screen which is great. But if I want to remove the bubble, I cannot press and hold it to drag it to the X to close it. I have to rotate my phone to portrait mode, which brings the bubble out more for me to press, drag and close. Might not be a big issue but just a little annoyance. Second would be and this is random. Same scenario, watching video or even browsing or doing other things. Get a message I may not want to read straight away but then it darkens the screen until I either open the message or close it.

I have also had my screen randomly pixelate.

This is my experience. If others have any tips or tricks to my issues that would be great.

    Thank you!
