Were Any 40''- 43" 4K 3D TVs Ever Released in Australia?

Anyone know of any 3D 4K TVs in the 40" - 43" that were ever released in Australia?

Ideally either passive circular polarised 3D or active 3D that is able to be viewed when the screen is in portrait orientation.

Basically, Im looking for something that might work for 3D pinball, probably in the secondhand market as I doubt there is anything available in today's new market sadly. 50" might also be a possibility but generally this is too big for a pinball machine.

  • There never were any 4K 3D TV's (ok, very few)

Another setback was the decision not to include 3D into 4K standards, so, by the time the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc format was introduced in late 2015, there was no provision for implementing 3D on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Discs, and no indication from movie studios to support such a feature.

But passive 3D at 4K resolution could have been the ideal home 3D TV solution. With 2160 vertical lines to work with, even when halved to 1080 lines the 3D image would still look fantastically sharp, whilst retaining the advantages of passive 3D TV. LG created a few such sets, such as the LG OLED65E6V.

Unfortunately, few people got to experience this, as most manufacturers ended support for 3D TV when phasing in support for 4K.

    • I think there are, just that they don't display 4K in 3D. What I need the TV to do is be able to display full 1080p in 3D hopefully, then be able to just switch back 2 2D 4K when I dont require the 3D.

      If I remember correctly, a 4K 3D TV displays a better passive 3D image than a 1080p 3D TV.

      • Except such a thing doesn't exist, or very very few exist (as in the example from the article above)

There's numerous articles online when you search "3D 4K" about the lack of range of such a TV

        Mandela Effect kicking in?

        • Things either exist or they don't, there is no inbetween.

I know that some were released in other overseas markets such as this one:
          https://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TX-40CX400B-40-Inch-Wides…

There were certainly more larger 3D 4K screens released than the smaller 40 inch though.

          • @Gravy: *very very few

Less than 34 on Gumtree around Aus, however potentially two options available in your state Nope, ran the model numbers, neither is actually 3D

            • @spackbace: Yeah I realise they are a bit of a rarity, hence the post. :)

Your post was saying that they don't exist and at the same time that they do exist. Schrödinger's 3D 4K TV?

      • Any TV you find would be second hand and risky. You just need to accept that such a device doesn't exist

        • They exist, but likely not released for the Australian market which is what im trying to discover. Secondhand is ok provided price is ok, older TVs can also be repaired especially if just minor issues like bad capacitors, I’ve repaired a few myself.

  • If your after a second hand 3D TV then search for them as you may not find any. The normal playfield would be more like 50" in length (rotated), but in width smaller. The back box would be more like a 32".

When you say 3D Pinball, which emu are you going to use? What video GPU are you going to use?

    • I already have a basic setup consisting of just a 40 inch 1080p and 32" 1080p backglass screen. They are just sitting on an old school desk at present but it does the job. 43" is generally the largest screen that can be shoehorned into a widebody style pinball cabinet (or one that you make yourself). You can get custom lockdown bars made to suit a larger size cabinet if you opt for a bigger screen, but you start to need gorilla width arms if you go too large.

I mostly run VPX (Visual Pinball X) although used run Future Pinball many years ago, have recently tried running VPX in 3D mode just with cheap cardboard anaglyph 3D glasses and the effect is pretty good but it has a bad effect on colours.

At present Im still running off a 10 year old laptop with GT 650m GPU and an i7 series 3 CPU . It runs most VPX tables at 60fps with the 2 screens but I need to tone down settings on some more complex releases. At some point I'll upgrade PC to something that can run 4K nicely.

      • Cool. I am into MAME since 0.36, so have seen the emu scene change allot like you have.

Instead of a PC you may want to check the RPi4 to see how well it is supported for pinnies as I use it on my 4K TV for MAME and it works fine.

        • Yeah there's no real VPX support at present for RPi4, takes quite a bit more processing power to run the table graphics. I think someone may have managed to get a VP9 or earlier version of the engine running (or could be a false memory), and have also seen Pinball FX android version on Pi if I remember correctly.

PinMAME is used to run the pinball ROMs from the real world tables but then the tables have to be individually handcrafted, there's well over a 1000 tables for VPX.

There's also a new Unity rendering engine on the way for Visual Pinball which is likely to be a game changer. Have a look at this sample vid, realtime graphics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHcKd_FExsE

          • @Gravy: Thanks very much for the info. I will look at the video in the morning (it's night in OZ).

Note these require you to wear 3D glasses.

Can't find any in the 40 inch range. Did see a 46inch on Grays.

Also looked for Sony KDL40NX720 40 inch NX720 but this is a 2011-era TV.

    • Thanks, 46" could be a possibility with build of a custom pinball cabinet size rather than standard or widebody.

    • Also looked for Sony KDL40NX720 40 inch NX720 but this is a 2011-era TV.

      And 1080p…

  • Samsung did 48" with 3d capabilities that I know of 6/7 series) but it was active 3D and boy did it hurt your eyes

    • Yeah I’ve got a 60 inch Panasonic 1080p plasma with active 3d and whilst the 3d image is good the shutter glasses make me queasy after a while.

      Thanks for the info.

    • Ha… blast from the past. Funnily enough this has been recreated in Visual Pinball although it's not a 100% accurate remake https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOAQ6wTc8UM

Edit: Took me a few minutes to realise that your link is actually playable, thought it was just a gif as didn't have my sound turned up. Nice one.
