Robot Vacuum for Carpet & Travertine Floor. Mopping and Laser Mapping. Budget $1500

Hi,

I live in a two bedroom apartment, bedrooms are thick carpet. Lounge and dining room are travertine tiles (has holes and pits due to its porous surface). Needs to have the ability to mop the travertine floor too.

Laser mapping is a plus.

Budget circa $1500, but prefer to pay less obviously!

Thanks,

Roborock S7 was $800 recently, if you need the self-raising mop pad

  • I have a roborock s7 and a 360.

The roborock vacuums and mops at the same time. It can also detect all my carpeted rugs accurately. The mapping function is pretty cool - it knows what's a room, and the app it comes with is very easy to use imo.

The 360 vacuums and mops, but you have to do it separately and fiddle with the attachments. I like the mopping function because it uses a lot more liquid than the roborock. It doesn't have an easy to use app like the roborock.

In terms of vacuuming, they are very similar in terms of what they manage to pick up, however the roborock is a lot quicker (it's a bigger unit) and it's quieter. They both manage terrain pretty well, the roborock edging out just a bit. That being said, the 360 is less than half the price of the roborock, but if price is no concern - get the roborock.

    • Does the mopping function kick in whenever they detect is a coffee spill etc.? Or do these just mop the floor in general?

      • They both have a spot clean function. You have to turn them on and place it near the spill if you want it to clean something specifically.
The roborock is a little bit better for this because you can also assign it to clean particular areas and rooms in the app, and set it to avoid certain places you don't want the robot to go. I usually use this instead of the spot clean function, just so I don't have to pick up the vacuum.
The other day, one of my cats knocked over a bowl and it smashed on the ground. After collecting the big pieces (and my cats), I could just target the room without having to go in there and kick around any more little shards of porcelain.

Just some extra food for thought -
I would argue that they both vacuum better than a human, or at least me. It's great because I don't have to move furniture (goes under the lounge, the bed, tables).
That being said, you will have to mop sometimes (for both of them) if you don't catch spills and it dries before you set them to clean the house. The roborock s7 is marketed as having a better mop (one that 'scrubs'), but tbh the effects aren't noticeably different to the 360 (other than the water usage, as I mentioned before).

I'll also add, a robot vacuum has been one of the most worthwhile purchases. It saves so much time and I always have clean floors (especially with multiple pets). I used to have to spend hours vacuuming and mopping every few days, but now I can set it to clean my house daily (and multiple times if I wanted to).

  • Thanks for the replies.
