Listed Driver Insurance Question

Hi guys, just have a quick question about car insurance for my partner which I haven't been able to find online. Have to order it today so kind of desperate. My partner is a listed driver on her parent's policy and they made a claim when she was in an accident.
When she goes to sign up for a new policy under her own name it asks how many motor vehicle claims has she made. She hasn't held insurance before.
Wondering if anyone knows if she needs to say she has lodged a claim if it's her parents who lodged it and it's on their policy.

Wouldn't she be making the claim on the policy if she's listed as a driver? It would be worth calling that insurer and clarifying to ensure you don't do something wrong that invalidates the policy.

See my answer on your Whirlpool post.

You need to answer their questions truthfully. If the question asks if the driver has been in an at fault collision etc.

If she hasn’t had insurance she can’t make a claim on it. IANAL.

How do you know which questions to answer truthfully? Or how?

Who previous insurer was? How much the premium was?

How many kms per year? 1000?… 6000? 7000?.. etc

        Ummm…. All of them?

  • Should be in the PDS but IMO, only the policy holder can make a claim so despite being listed as a driver on the policy, she hasn't made a claim. You could call and ask but you'll like get the opinion rather than actual fact from the person you speak to. If they say one thing and the PDS says another, it's the PDS that'll be followed unless you can actually prove what was said to you and fight it.

    • Record the conversation. Easy to prove it. Say this conversation is being recorded for quality purposes at start.

Potentially but then not lose it for the next 5 years and it'd still likely be a legal battle. Easier just to read the PDS like you're supposed to IMO. You'll get a long way into it in the hour you're on hold to speak to someone anyway.

        • Next 5 years is hyperbolic if OP is a true ozber that changes insurers every year?
