      Ok Mr Network

Telstrafail, Floptus. It's almost like somone on here has had a bad experience with one of them because their location varies.

      • +5

Yep. It really gets tiring when someone posts a deal for said mobile provider that so many have the chime in on poor coverage.
Unless you've been living under a rock for the past decade, everyone knows the coverage for all 3 mobile networks in their area, no need to repeatedly comment on "poor coverage" with x provider.
Telstrafail, Hellstra, Vodafail, Floptus, it's all so childish.

        • i agree with coverage varies. it is becoming a broken record,
However calling them vodafail helstra and floparse whatever is more tongue in cheek type humour like calling Barry, Bazza and Sharon, Shazza.
Good deal for 5g esim prepaid card

      • +2

        Hellstra!

    • -1

      True 👍

  • +6

I am using Kogan who is using Vodafone network, it works just fine.

    • +5

I used Kogan up until recently in a major city and I've seen big improvements since switching to Boost.

      • +3

I concur .. Boost is the way to go …

    • +2

      LoL

  • +2

Vodafone is ok in major cities. YMMV rurally.

    • +3

      Ok but not good.

  • Can anyone confirm that Vodafone will share Telstra network?

    • +1

      Future joint venture. Pending approval..

      • +1

It will get approved. It’s a pretty good thing for rural and regional Australia mobile competition.

For clarity it’s a deal that gives Vodafone access to Telstra towers. It’s not a roaming agreement. Vodafone will broadcast their signal from Telstra towers and control the experience end to end.

If Rod Simms doesn’t approve it, it will be simply him cutting off his nose to spite his face. He is still bitter about the Vodafone TPG merger getting up.

All in all, I can’t wait as Vodafone’s network where it does work currently is very good in my experience.

    • Telstra wholesale Network yes (which isn't the same as the Telstra direct network). But yes it will be quite beneficial for voda customers.

      • +2

It’s not Telstra Wholesale, though just for clarity as that implies Vodafone are roaming.

While it seems like the coverage footprint is similar, it’s actually Vodafone broadcasting their signal using shared RAN equipment.

Vodafone will have seperate dedicated backhaul and control everything about the experience.

The other important point is that Vodafone will be combining their spectrum with Telstra’s, and will be broadcasting 5G. This combined spectrum will produce some really fast speeds in many rural and regional areas.

I bet Optus are pretty worried about this.

        • Ok, that's mostly all over my head lol.

So will the coverage footprint be more or less the same as Telstra wholesale?

Edit: I guess this means the implementation will be a bit more involved than just "flicking a switch", so I'd expect the timeframe to be a little while down the track, pending approval of course…

          • @Binchicken22: The population % is the same same so likely close to Telstra wholesale. There are 169 Vodafone towers that Telstra are getting access to, so it could be slightly different.

I guess the point I was trying to make is, this isn’t just another Optus roaming deal but with Telstra, where Telstra pulls all the string and limits speeds and what not.

This deal is the same experience for customers as if Vodafone went and built all these towers. They have full control. PLUS they will have access to the combined spectrum of both companies.

It won’t be flick of a switch, but it’s not far off. All the changes required are within Telstra and Vodafone’s core network, so no one has to climb any towers or anything like that.

I’m predicting later this year, but considering government and the ACCC are involved, who knows.

    Officeworks collect flybuys points.

Price same in woollies this week, ends Tuesday
    Collect reward points
Plus if u have insurance with woollies
    collect extra 10% off…

    • +1

True, but with this deal you get 50GB more data & that may be more important to some

      • This is interesting. I thought I saw the deal in a different post but didn't realise it wasn't the same data credit.

    • I can't find it in on the website. Are they only available in shop at woolies?

      • Officeworks

  • So this won’t have access to the 5G network?

    • +3

      Yes, it will have 5G.100%.
      This is well documented :)

      • That’s what I thought, but op made a point of stating 4g ….

        • +4

Ah I see. Good point. OP. needs to update post to say 4G and 5G :)

    • +4

      The SIM supports 5G connectivity

  • If I'm with Kogan which uses Vodafone, can I still use the SIM provided to switch?

    • +1

Not sure what you mean? You can get this Vodafone SIM starter kit and switch, if that's what you are asking.
It doesn't matter whether the existing provider you are with uses the Vodafone network or not.

    • +1

@ar7ist No, you need the Vodafone SIM, so therefore you need to remove your Kogan SIM then install the Vodafone SIM, then port in.
In most cases it's very simple.

      • +2

You explained it better than me. Thanks ;)

  • No international calls but a good price otherwise.

  • Support esim?

    • Yes

  • The data is valid for 365 days from activation.

How long before I have to activate?

    • +1

As per Q&A on the deal page, Vodafone SIMs can be activated within 365 days of purchase date.

  • How much time do we have to activate?

  • Bought WWS one, just wondering can I return it

    • -1

Literally just bought the Woolworths one too. FML.

  • Thanks grabbed one, I signed on with Catch (optus) late last year, has been fine in sydney, but extremely patchy in Brisbane/Ipswich, my telstra workphone had consistent coverage, will be interesting to see how Voda goes.

    • +3

I work in the city and live Northside (Chermside) and have bounced between Telstra (was on them for a decade), Optus, Lebara (Voda), Optus, Voda (proper) in the since December last year.

      In my view:
      - Telstra has the best coverage and 4g speeds
      - Optus would drop calls everywhere on a regular basis, and data speeds in Westfield was non-existent (couldn't load an email type bad). Regional coverage was ok, but (for example) would drop out 2 or 3 times on the drive to Toowoomba or Sunny Coast, whereas Telstra would have (some) coverage in those areas (wife is on Telstra)
      - Vodafone/Lebara is the surprise for me. Speed, coverage and reliability on 4G and 5G has been great in the city, and yes, it does drop more often than even Optus when travelling, but its not noticeably worse (just a little bit - it would drop coverage maybe 30 seconds before Optus).

I travel to Tasmania for work (though haven't lately) so have to be on Telstra for coverage purposes.

As per comments above, YMMV on coverage/speeds pending your location, but in my experience Voda is better than Optus, with boost/Telstra at the top for speed, coverage and reliability.

  • Under Q&A on the OW website:

Vodafone Sim can be activated within 365 days of purchase date.

  • +1

Pity it doesn't include free international calls. Looking for an offer with free minutes to South Africa if anyone has some suggestions, please?

    • +1

      Honestly, just use Skype.

Best call quality around. The mobile to mobile thing might be okay in some countries, but Skype has some kind of wizardry that improves the call quality. Skype to mobile or landline that is.

  • How long is the promo?

    • +1

      @scupper
Very likely just matching Woolies deal, so when that finishes ( Unless Coles follows next week)

  • Using in Brisbane, coverage definitely patchy compared to Telstra. At home made sure enable calling via wifi as was unlucky to be in a blackspot (despite being in a very metro area).

But won't complain for $125 for the year vs $500+ from Telstra on monthly plan

  • Is it for new customers only? Can I renew/recharge using this pack if I am already with Voda Prepaid?

    • Won't be able to renew/recharge with this.
I plan to port to Optus prepaid for a month, then port back to Voda prepaid.

  • Also at woolies, which you can get additional 10% + 3% off if you have woolies insurance/mobile + discounted GC

    • Woollies one is only 150gb.

      • Oh! Righto. Bums. Wonder if I can return lol

  • Thanks, was about to grab the woolies one but I'll get this instead, free shipping too!

  • Does voda support wifi calling?

    • +3

Yes, prepaid has access to wifi calling.

  • I need Telstra. poor reception for voda and optus in my home ( ᜊ°-° )

  • +1

Grabbed the Woolies one….has anyone had luck refunding it to buy this?

    • Have you tried? I'm thinking about doing the same

  • +1

I checked into offers last year and recall Voda pre-paid plans didn't support Numbersync ($5/m linked e-sim for smartwatch). After searching I can't find anything online to confirm. Anyone know if they now allow this add-on with prepaid sims?

EDIT: I received a callback from their technical support and they confirmed NumberSync (smart watch add-on) is NOT available with pre-paid sims.
They reconfirmed comments above that Vodafone prepaid has 5G, e-sim capable, VoLTE and Wifi Calling; none of which are with Kogan I'm currently with.

Great post OP. Thanks! I'm on the way to buy one now

    • No prepaid/PAYG with any provider at this point supports NumberSync when I last looked.

      • I am guessing that might be the case for some time, but as more MVNO's roll out e-sim activation this year I hope we'll see more smartwatch plans.

Truphone is the only MVNO that offers smart watch plans if im correct. They can only provision separate phone numbers so its not that useful for $10 a month

        • +1

I tried Truphone and couldn't get it working so I gave up and cancelled it.
Yep, hopefully, we see this come to prepaid with a bunch of providers inc. MNVO's this year :)

  • Can anyone comment on Vodafone network quality for Sydney Metro train service between Epping and Chatswood. Works fine for me with Belong but considering switching.

    • +1

Works flawlessly for me. 200-300mbps the whole way through the tunnel.

      • Thanks mate

  • Seems like the deal is no longer available, kinda. Can't get it delivered, can't pick it up at my local store (North Ryde NSW). But can pick it up from another store (Sydney CBD).

  • do i need ID for this?

If i pay in cash will i need to register my name and details any where?

    • You can pay however you want and no details required for it. Though you wont be able to activate the sim without a valid ID (For eg: Australian or International Passport etc.)

  • Anyone in the rockdale kogarah ramsgate hurstville area. Vodafone/kogan is dog shit.

    • If you’re basing your experience off of just using Kogan via Vodafone then there are a number of reason it could be worse.

Not having VoLTE on Kogan is a major one where call quality suffers and data speeds grind when you’re on a call.

      • No thats a separate issue. I'm talking constant 1 bar. Been on Kogan for about 2 years and it's recently been horrible in these suburbs.

  • Please excuse my noob question… If I get this and it's time to renew next year, I'll be paying $200 for renewal instead of $125, is that correct? Cheers.

  • Out of stock for delivery :( Try your local store.

  • FYI Two Officeworks I went into have them for $125 but unlike the graphic in the post, or the one on the OW website, there is no mention on the product cards that there would be an extra 50 gb on top of the standard 150 gb after you activate them. I am not due to finish with Kogan for another few weeks so I won't find out whether I will get 150gb or 200gb til then. The product code of VOD 1004414 matches the code on their website so I guess if it doesn't get the extra 50 gb I will complain then.

    • +1

hi mate, same happen to me, I got the sim yesterday and activate today and no there's no extra 50GB data only 150G, cant find anyway to make the complain since I already activate it and cant refund now…

      • I phoned Vodafone last night and they said it should appear within 48 hours of activation so maybe see how it goes in the next couple of days. How do they know that you got this from Officeworks and not another retailer that didn't include the bonus data? Not sure. Maybe by the activation codes? Can you update me if/when it comes through?

        • I ordered through officework online and pick up

        • +1

hi mate, just checked from vodafone app, mine data has update to 200G now without doing any thing, so the promotion should be true.

      • I bought this sim during last promo.

Did take a day or two to add the extra 50 gb.

  • I'm surprised that someone like Choice hasn't gone around with 3-4 identical phones with the big guys (+ boost, since they don't actually have the FULL Telstra network) and do spot checks all around the major cities.

  • If i buy 2 of these, can i activate one, then use the second one to extend the first one by an extra year?

    • +1

These are sim starter packs. It's not a recharge voucher.

    • You could technically achieve it if you were to port out quickly and back in on the second starter pack at the 12 month mark.

  • Can anyone comment of Vodafone coverage I'm Canberra?

  • Good deal. Thanks. Sitting there until my 18gb Boost runs out. Also just had the extra free 25gb flood relieve added. Set for another year.

  • So I've been on this sim for 3 months from a previous deal and I can't make any phone calls, text messages or use any data any more. I received a text message today stating that I did not recharge my prepaid sim in 90 days and I'll lose my phone number and account if I don't recharge within the next 30 days.

I called Vodafone and they said that I must recharge a minimum of $10 every 3 months to continue using the 12 months sim that I paid for??

    Anyone else had similar issue?
