What Is This Pipe for?

I saw this pipe coming out from the cavity under the brick house on stump all the way up through the roof. I am just curious, what does this pipe do?

Edit - All good, it's definitely sewer vent. Thank you for all the replies. Cheers.

    Sewer vent most likely.

    • but I don't see it on every stump houses.

Sometimes they're internal or in the wall cavity.

        • won't that stink?

@spedohero: The vent sticks out of the roof itself

              @Drakesy: In before spedohero…

Why have you got alamy written all over your roof? I've not seen that on a stumped house before.

              • @Muzeeb: It's a very expenisve coating for those style roofs. Supposedly means you can charge people for using photos of it…

  • +1 for sewer vent.

  • Is the toilet on the other side of the wall?

    • No, I think it is either a kitchen or pantry on the other side of the wall. The kitchen should be at the end of where the pipe is sticking out. This pipe is from a clinic so I am not too sure on the layout of the house.

Edit - Ok, I saw another stump house where the other side of the wall where the pipe is sticking out is a powder room

As above Sewer vent aka stink pipe.

Helps the flow of the waste pipe and vent gases.

Definitely a stink pipe, they've been installed on houses for a couple of hundred years

Stink pipe/sewer vent. Check out a few other houses, you most likely see one on each of them too. They are usually on the back or side of the house. Just checked and can see one easily on about 7 houses nearby.

It’ll just be a pipe from the highest point in the plumbing to allow accumulated gases to exit away from your nose.

  • Show us where the pipe ends? If it is above the house roof line, it is the vent for the dunny

    • Its through the roof, yeah, it is a sewer vent. Thank you for all the replies.
