    • Aer you a YouTuber or a podcaster?

      • +13

I run a blog on what its like being addicted to ozbargain

        • Instead of a free blog, make it $5 down from $99 and people from this site will flock to it

  • Anyone use this for Zoom calls, MS Team calls etc..or just general video and audio conferences? How bad is the keyboard noise pickup?

    • +3

I can't answer your question but it seems from reading the description that you can change the polar patterns on this mic, so maybe you can avoid keyboard noise by choosing the right pattern and orientation.

More information on polar patterns here.

      • Thanks for the link. Appreciate it.

The shock mount on the QuadCast S seems to significantly reduce the booming bass the SoloCast appears to be prone to when typing, here's a video comparing those two and also the Seiren Mini.

  • Cheers, I've been waiting for a sale

Didnt have time to post it this morning, but this is a new low especially for AU stock.
The last decent price was around $180 from Amazon US a few weeks ago.

Looks like alot of Hyperx gear on sale over at Amazon not just the mic if people are interested.

I would have linked this into the Computer category as well :)

      Updated to computing, thanks. :)

Still not worth it as this price unless RGB is somehow your priority for a microphone.

if you're happy to wait for sales, and assuming you want a cardiod polar pattern: Razer Seiren X for comparable quality at $80-$90, Rode NT-USB at $140 for a step up, Shure MV7 at $180-$200 to blow it out of the water.

    • Thanks, might as well get the Shure MV7!

Any opinion on the MV7 vs the Shure SM7B?

      • +1

The SM7B is superior, but if your use case is just capturing spoken word, either is fine. They are tonally different microphones, with the SM7B being a classic studio recording choice for vocals and close mic recordings of guitars, drums/cymbals and brass instruments. It's also of a higher resolution, provided the rest of your chain isn't crap.

The MV7 is only good for spoken word, and no other recording applications, as it dips into artificially boosting the related parts of the frequency response.

Also, never use the MV7 in XLR mode, it sounds like ass. It was designed as a USB mic, and they don't seem to have shielded the XLR wiring for a clean signal (hence the release of the MV7X, which isn't a very good mic in its price category).

Hell, if you're just using a mic for game comms, you do fine with $50 worth of gear.

        • Really appreciate it! I'm looking for something for setting up a YouTube channel, and would like it to be as professional as possible.

Razer Seiren X only records in one channel in Windows by the way. Have a HyperX Solocast and performs way better than the Razer.

      • I mean all standard mics are mono, but that reads like a driver installation issue. The Solocast is good at $50, but the Seiren X is a better mic.

        • Ok Seiren X may be better, I was talking about Serien Mini sorry. Tried it on a few computers so definitely wasn't a driver issue for the Mini. The quality dragged it down because of the 1 channel in Windows, for our podcast so we went with the Solocast

          • +1

@adrianhughes1998: I mean the design of the driver falls under that umbrella, but there's plenty of apps to turn a single channel mono source into joint stereo for recording.

But yeah, the Solocast is a better quality iteration of that design.

            • @jasswolf: Yeah na, didn't want yet another thing to add to the chain. So sticking with Cleanfeed to record WAV then straight into Audition. 1 channel is something would expect with a cheap Kmart mic not quality brand like Razer :/

But yeah Solocast did the trick. Can't speak for the Seiren X, but looks nice on paper at least

    • Been looking for an MV7 but there’s almost never any sales

      • Twice a year on Amazon, stack with cashbacks and discounted gift cards.

  • Bought one. Thanks OP!

  • I've been waiting for this one!

    Finally here! Thanks OP
