Vodafone Motorola Moto E7 Power Blue (+ $30 Prepaid Starter Kit) $69 @ Woolworths

190

Just picked up this cheap phone at my local Woolworths to use as a backup phone while my pixel is being repaired.

Link doesn't say but this is the Moto E7 Power Blue.
Next cheapest price is can see online is $99 at Big W and Auspost.

Looks like a pretty good value phone for the price.

    $50 unlock seems expensive.
    Any cheaper option?
    Anyone unlocked it?

    • -5

      Bin it

    • +6

$50 is less than the subsidy. Telstra charge $80.

      $25 after 6 months.

Or just use it as a cheap games tablet for your 6yo. They have small hands.

looks good, might check it out.

end date for the special appears to be 12/4 unless sold out earlier

Bought one on Saturday as a temp phone. My Xiaomi's screen started going purple while trying to fix our house in the flood. Originally I was going to get a Nokia C01 Plus in a Vodaphone bundle for the same price which was running android go instead. At this price point, the main points that persuaded me were the bigger screen/battery, better camera/processor and full Android 10 OS.

One thing that's a little annoying with the Motorola is the lag and non-responsiveness. Sometimes I'm pressing system setting buttons and nothing happens no matter how patient you are. To be specific, it's laggy switching apps, but generally fine in the apps themselves. Definitely let down by the lower RAM/CPU and one thing I read was its running a 32bit OS instead of the non Power model, which is running the 64bit version. The non power one is $149 at woolies.

Overall it is a pretty cheap phone, it works and is getting me out of a jam while I await a new screen, so can't complain too much.

Unlocked it through the Unlock Arena. Cost about $20.15 AUD with 28 degrees card.

Anyone used sim-unlock.net before? They say USD$7.99 to unlock.

    • This is a better priced unlock option, but no experience with them

I think I checked this one, I couldn't find this model listed on the site. Perhaps it falls under the of the other models they have listed, their site is a bit of mess to find stuff. The reason I went with unlock arena is they had this model listed and advertised a good turn around time. It ended up being <10 mins. There were plenty of other sites offering this service though.

I'm giving sim-unlock.net a crack. Paid. Will report back once I receive the code. They say will receive in 1-4 days.

Confirming it worked! Received code in a few hours.
      USD$7.99 (~AUD$11)

      • Same here, code sent next day for Moto e7. Very easy to unlock . I actually bought both phones, using the e7 Power with Felix (tethered to wifi router). There is a noticable lag with apps or general usage on the e7 Power in comparison to e7, most likely that 2G ram showing its limitations . The battery is amazing in both, with fairly heavy use over 24hrs still had 46% battery left with e7. If you were going to use either as your main phone I would advise paying $30 more for the e7. There is very little different between the two, screen is nice and clear and visible outside. Duel sim is handy. The biggest negative is no more updates with security or OS. But its such a good deal at this price point.
For those who are considering just using it to tether 4G , the speeds have been good and in comparison with other phones I have used good signal strength. Bluetooth 5 also works well.

  • Would this work on Felix? Don't need to buy, but would likely make a great hotspot, my current one is being a piece of shit and my other backups are $5 clearance phones, or worse.

  • I'd buy this purely for the kids to play games and watch YouTube kids!

Anyone have experience with kids games on this device? Would it cope?

    • I have the g6 play which has similar specs. It used to cope and handled Pokemon Go somewhat well despite being a hog, but lately is having issues with constant short freezes. Whether that's from software updates or just the parts somehow wearing out (maybe a nearly full storage doesn't help), I'm unsure.

  • Will this phone work on overseas Vodaphone network please?

I've tried this one on eBay before for unlock codes Moto e7 Power unlock code AU$6.69, 99.5% positive feedback rating
So only 1 in 200 people give negative feedback, I like those odds!!

I messaged this seller and they said they can't unlock this phone on Vodafone Australia.

      • Bummer, mine was for a Nokia on Boost,

      • +1

Thanks, since that seller doesn't indicate which networks they support you've saved people some grief. I had planned to use that seller if I bought that phone. Good that you managed to find another site. I'm not sure how to tell the scam phone unlocking sites from the real ones. I think we need a Wiki page for reputable unlock sides and of course the cheapest!

I just visited my local Wow to inquire about this phone and I was given the most ridiculous story that they had 2 in stock but couldn't sell me one because they had been recalled by Vodafone? I was initially told that the particular store doesn't sell Vodafone mobile which made sense as they didn't have any on display. My guess is that a staff member has reserved them. Anyone else had a similar experience?

    • +1

Yeh when I asked my local Woolworths the lady initially said she doesn't think they have Vodafone phones. But then had a further look and found them.

Sounds like the staff are reserving them for themselves.

I agree all the kids working in woollies hiding phone and probably selling on eBay or ozbargain 😀.. :)

  • if you're buying from the counter and not click & collect, make sure they grab the blue one and not the grey. packaging is identical; look at the barcode on the side of the box where it's got the IMEI info. guy scanned the grey one, came up as $149. he had to dig around reluctantly for the blue one which scanned at the correct $69 ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    • They are actually different products, the grey has a somewhat better spec but arguably not $80 better. The Woolies web site has apparently omitted the word "Power" from the title of the $69 phone which the OP obliquely mentioned.

Let us know how you find the phone. I'm still sitting on the fence.

      • i'd pay the $80 if the grey one came with nfc.

        • If you're prepared to go to $199 Coles is offering the Optus Oppo A72

  • Just checking if this deal is still on please?

    • +1

doubt it. tag says expired 12/4

    • +1

There's a chance since the image posted by the OP had the sticker marked as clearance but it also had an end date of 12/04 so it could even be cheaper if they really want to clear them and managers do have some discretion on stock that needs to be unloaded. Even if it is available for the same price the (unreliable) Woolies stock checker is showing many stores as out of stock. I randomly entered a postcode and it showed that Marsfield (2122) had stock so you might try ringing them. You might consider the better specced non-Power model instead. Big W is currently showing stock of that for $99. Add another item for a $1 or more to get free shipping. There is also a usually miniscule cash back from CashRewards available too. If Optus is ok you might keep an eye out for the Optus RealMe C21 on special which is similarly specced to the better e7 model. That was selling for $49 from Woolworths but that was another clearance deal that supposedly ended yesterday and I can't get the stock checker to work at all on that one.

  • Seems to be back on clearance for $69. Shelf tag shows end date of 26/4.
It's rather ordinary compared to the realme c21 but those are unicorns now :p
