All a player needs is one Joy-Con controller, so two people can team up right out of the box. Tackle 164 platforming courses in the two main game modes and enjoy extra replayability with three additional game modes in which you can also play as a Mii character: Challenges, Boost Rush, and Coin Battle.

Green mushroom profile pic on the hunt for some Super Mario bargains? 🧐

  • +1

This is a great game, easily the best in the New Super Mario Bros U series.
They cranked up the difficulty and that is before the Luigi DLC.

    • +2

Basically the same game from wii u

      • It is the same game but great if you have not played before or want to play again.
Replay is pretty high, it's a 2d side scrolling Mario game after all.

        • 2d side scrollers were the pinnacle. I miss the good old days.

      • +1

Same with Mario Kart. Same thing from 2014, with a few new tracks just released this year.

    • I would have to say the New Super Mario Bros wii version was better and more challenging.

  • I know this is 2d but this or Odyssey?

    • +4

      Playing with family this.
Playing solo then choose based on the preference of 3D vs 2D Mario.

      • +1

Thank you! It's mainly for playing with the kids.

        • +1

          This for sure then.

        • it can cause tension if they start killing each other especially if they're competitive

        • Get both. oddessy is mind blowlingly good!

    • +1

I'd go with Odyssey even for playing with the kids.

This is what the 2 player U looks like:

It's quite frustrating if one player is much better than the other and they move the camera along.

      • Thanks for the input. Naturally I wouldn't be trying to move the camera along on my 6yo daughter but point taken.

        • I kept accidentally moving the camera along with my partner being left behind when I got too into the game lol

But in your case, I was thinking more about if you had more than 1 kid playing together.

      • +1

I play Odyssey a fair bit with my 5 year old daughter - she plays as Mario and I play as the hat, unless it's a hard bit or a boss fight, then we swap controllers for a bit… It's pretty easy to play though!

      Odyssey - no contest

    • +1

There’s a reason why Odyssey is still $20 more than this game.

      • Thanks. $20 is fine.

    • Odyssey or Super Mario 3D World

  • +4

Got it for the Wii & Wii U, now got it for the Switch :-(
    Cunning Nintendo, you win.

    • +3

Well at least Wii and Wii U are different games, unlike this…

      • +1

nintendo should have released the wii and wii u as a bundle onto the switch.
the luigi version is a waste of time.

      • They should have at least added more/new levels for the deluxe edition

Really bad game. There hasn't been a good 2D Mario game since Super Mario World.

If you want a multiplayer game for the fam, get Super Mario 3D World/Bowser's Fury.

Got this price matched at JB HiFi with no issues, just loaded up the HN website and showed them the price.

Not sure if complimenting the girl behind the counter on her pink hair helped or not.

      U tiger u

      Complimenting always helps :)
