GT7 (Gran Turismo 7) Discussion Thread

So apparently Polyphony has head our cries and are trying to fix things, but is the damage already done?

They will be giving all affected players 1 million Credits, and say in the April update they will improve in the payout rate.

Dear Gran Turismo Community,

Thank you for your continued support and feedback on Gran Turismo 7, your voices have not gone unheard. I would like to apologize for the frustration and confusion caused last week with our patch updates which resulted in, not only a server outage but also adjustments to the in-game economy which were made without a clear explanation to our community.

We know that this is not the Gran Turismo experience you expect and we will be making a goodwill gesture in the form of a non-paid credit pack of 1 million Cr. available to those players who may have been affected*. You will see this hit your accounts shortly. Make sure you log into the game before April 25 to claim the credits.

The patch update previously deployed was intended to rectify an issue with inconsistent reward payouts within a part of the World Circuit Events. But, to re-establish the intended equilibrium and provide more accurate rewards based on time investment and completion, it was necessary to recalculate the rewards system as a whole.

To improve the player experience, we will be rolling out a considerable patch in the beginning of April. The number of events will be increased, and we will reestablish the reward system with greater balance throughout the game to benefit all players.

Updates which will come into effect beginning of April:

  • Increase rewards in the events in the latter half of the World Circuits by approximately 100% on average.
  • Addition of high rewards for clearing the Circuit Experience in all Gold/All Bronze results.
  • Increase of rewards in Online Races.
  • Include a total of eight new one-hour Endurance Race events to Missions. These will also have higher reward settings.
  • Increase the upper limit of non-paid credits in player wallets from 20M Cr. to 100M Cr.
  • Increase the quantity of Used and Legend cars on offer at any given time.
Beyond this there will be a few additional patches deployed between now and the end of April which will add new cars and tracks and make some other fixes.

Finally, we also want to take the opportunity to lay out some of the near-term updates we are working on. We can’t confirm an exact date or specifics yet, but will give advance notice via www.gran-turismo.com.

  • Increase the payout value of limited time rewards as we develop as a live service.
  • Further World Circuit event additions.
  • Addition of Endurance Races to Missions including 24-hour races.
  • Addition of Online Time Trials and awarding of rewards according to the player’s difference with the top ranked time.
  • Make it so cars can be sold.
We want to thank you for your continued patience and valuable feedback as we grow and evolve GT7 to make it as enjoyable and rewarding for as many players as possible. We always want to keep communication lines open with our community so that we can work together to build the best racing experience possible.

Limit 1 per person. Must own a digital or physical copy of GT7 for PS4 or PS5 prior to the publication of this post (Friday, 25 March at 1:00am PST) and log into Gran Turismo 7 between Friday, March 25 at 5:00pm JST/8:00am GMT/ 1:00am PDT and Monday, April 25 at 5:00pm JST/8:00am GMT/ 1:00am PDT to receive the free credit pack.

  • I already returned the game and deleted my save file.

    • So damage is already done, no going back now.

Would you consider getting it again later on when it's cheaper and all these issues are resolved?

I've decided to torment myself with Assetto Corsa instead.

The main protest I have is the "live service" - it doesn't need to be a live service. It's a game priced at full retail.

I've also ordered GT5 for the PS3, so I can get my GT fix from that instead. :)

My Logitech G29 is certainly getting a work out these last few days!

I do not even know what damage was done as I did not play for those 24 hours lol.

    • You couldn't play, at all - the game is a worthless coaster if the servers go down.

    • haha more to the point that you need to connect to their servers even when playing the solo campaign and the update that cause the outage also nuffed a lot of the payouts in the game which made collecting all the cars near impossible.

Refer to the heated post which caused me to start this thread: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/690494

      • Do i get my car back that I discarded by accident thinking I was selling it… lmao bastards took my mini.

    • Same here. I also don’t really want the 1M credits. I guess I just won’t spend them until the end. Or spend them on a 1M car and I won’t use it much.

  • Servers are back online earlier than scheduled, which is a good sign.

I got my 1 Million credits, but now don't feel like playing it anymore. Will wait for them to push out all those improvement updates first, no point playing now with so little gain when I know it will be better in a couple of weeks.

I'm sure it has done wonders to the sales of other racing games.

Sounds like a band aid fix tbh. Fk them for trying to pull this bullshit. 1mil cred as a one-off gtfo.
Get rid of microtransactions and online requirement you greedy asswipes.
Game and reputation is in the gutter already this is not enough and it's clear they have not really understood the issue.

GTA V did this too back in the PS3 days. Hackers got into the servers, and they gave everyone a hundreds of millions of dollars. Now if you had 10 Mill before the hack, now have so much more, Rockstar deleted all of that and gave you 1 million as compensation. It was particularly irritating to people who paid $100 to buy in-game credit, and lost that to Rockstar, who pinky-promised to help you.

GT7 sounds similar to that, but more along the lines of FIFA.
It's a cash grab. They expected people to buy this game once, and keep it as a service for a decade, slowly releasing DLC which you'd have to grind or use microtransactions on.

Best to get a refund on your game, tell all your friends to not buy it, and make Polyphony pay for it financially. Removing the bonuses that the CEO and Execs get, is the best method to ensure improvements happen. Hopefully that means microtransactions become more of an option (ie $9 purchase = 3 hr grind), rather than the "Game's Mechanics".

Depending on what the increased race payouts turn out to be, the "Increase the upper limit of non-paid credits in player wallets from 20M Cr. to 100M Cr" could be a double edged sword when combined with Kaz's previous statement "pricing of cars is an important element that conveys their value and rarity, so I do think it’s important for it to be linked with the real world prices."

  • wow

so many failures over recent years - Cyperpunk, Battlefield 2042, and now this

They need to learn the lesson from Elden Ring

    • what are the battlefield 2042 failures?

It's the same fake controversy every GT release since GT5. Let me speak from experience, GT will still end this generation with a single game release, top sales numbers, the biggest community, biggest online/offline events, only relevant competitive scene and all the best manufacturer partnerships.

You miss out playing this game on your own accord but don't blame anyone but yourself when you start playing months/years later and you're absolutely outgunned in skill by all the veterans building up skill now.

Yes nice downvote. Cowards can't even take discussion in thread. Ozb is so sad these days.

      • I got ya, buddy. I totally agree with ya.

I was away for work during the infamous outage so I completely missed all the hullabaloo lmao and my bruv had my PS5 when I got back, so once I got my PS back and plonked it on I got that coolcool c$1M.

        Loving the game.

If there's any more catastrophic eff ups like the one they just had, though, well - I'll change my tune

Its done, the devs have tarnished their reputation.

They need to remove the always online requirement and stop fighting with the players over credits period. Its hostile design. The excuse is the SP needs to always online to stop cheaters breaking the game economy, like it would be cheating if your customers found a way to enjoy all the cars in the game without paying as much as 40 bucks each for some of them.

Since Sony always close their servers it means the entire game is a rental, nothing is maintained beyond a generation. If Sony just want the whales and bootlickers I'm happy without it.

    • Close their servers permanently or temporarily?

  • Soundtrack on point tho

  • Like a few others, I was keen on getting a PS5 solely to play this game. Glad they were still so hard to get as game has just been gathering dust in place of GT Sport with its current state.

In some ways, GT7 helped me save money as I'd have ended up with a ps5 (had I been able to get one) and not played it.

  • I'll probably grab it at $50, Horizon FW has so much content to keep me happy for a while

  • I'd be annoyed tbh, have heard how long the grind can take now for those top-tier cars

Would hope MS learn from something like this with Forza Motorsport. God knows it's been in production for a while (launch teaser was with the Series S/X launch trailer), so hopefully that's a good thing, especially with the popularity of FH4 & 5
