Trying to Book Qantas around The World and Failing

Hi
I am trying to book around the world and failing on the first three flights. the website is saying no matching flights but when I search for the flights separately there are plenty there. I am trying to book Canberra to Sydney around 17 June and then Sydney to Kuala Lumpur same date and then Kuala Lumpur to London Heathrow 18th of June.

I’m hoping to use points to basically go Uk and stop over at a couple of locations.

Would appreciate any help.

  • Use the multi trip tool on the website and when selecting dates select flexible. That way you will see a broader range of availability for each leg.

    • Yep doing that

Trying to book Qantas around the world and falling

Use some sort of support to stay in an upright position and the booking will go through.

If you cannot reach the seat in front, bend forward and place your hands on top of your head

Use one world instead of qantas site
    https://rtw.oneworld.com/rtw/

    • You can't book flights with Qantas points on the OneWorld website.

    • I've been having the same problem booking RTW though not with points. Might be because my point of origin is London? Will try oneworld website.

  • One person? Which class? Do you need to stop overnight in KL or can it be another city?

    • Yep one person. Ideally business if I can get it at a good price/points. I don’t need to stop or stay at KL just get to Uk and then Turkey on the way back. Thought of going via KL because Malaysia air is Qantas partner.

      • How close to those dates do you need to be?

        • I can be flexible with dates

@shertiger: 19th/20th work? If so, look at QF1979 to ADL, QR915 to DOH, then QR1 to LHR on 20/6. Would hopefully be in Q suites on QR but I haven't checked that.

Also bit of a long layover in DOH, but you will have access to the Al Mourjan lounge which is arguably one of the best business lounges.

            • @djkelly69: So I’ve gone cbr to adl for first flight but when I enter adl to doh it says it doesn’t recognise doh code. This is on the Qantas multi city website.

@shertiger: When you are in Multi-city, near the top there is the option to pick either "Use money, points or both" or "Use points - Classic Flight Rewards only". Choose classic flight rewards only.

                • @djkelly69: Thanks that worked! On the mobile in portrait mode it didn’t show!

                  • @shertiger: Finally got to book through multi city going to London and back with mostly first and business class! It used more points than around the world option which I thought was max 400k but still very good value.

I tried booking for 7-8 august from Sydney to London but couldn’t find any first or business class options. Strange that it did for a June booking but not august.

            • @djkelly69: QR has crazy high taxes and fuel surcharges so should be avoided if possible

              • @stirlo: I wouldn't say crazy high (hello Emirates), but they can certainly be higher than others. On the other hand, their business class is easily top 3 in the world, as is their lounge which the OP could access in DOH.

Is really up to the OP to decide if the extra taxes are worth (if other options are available at this late stage).

  • I havent done this for ROW, but if you are using points normally, then dont the airlines have allocated a certain number of seats for reward redemptions. When those are gone then you cant book.

Unless ROW allocations are different this could be the reason why you cant book these dates on those segments. plus if you are flying partner flights these can be further limited for Qantas allocations.

  • When you say you’re searching for individual flights and there are plenty do you mean your searching for classic reward seats and they show they’re available on the individual flights? Or that Malaysia airlines has flights you can pay money to book?

If it’s the latter this is because there is only a very limited supply of classic reward seats and they’re probably sold out. Just because there are tickets for sale for money doesn’t mean there are available as classic reward points seats.

    • Thanks I think I was mis matching

  • Usually I book everything online.
End of 2019 I had a similar issue. Then we asked round the world travel in Adelaide to organise it.
For a mere $1400 odd we managed to circumnavigate the world.

    • Wow that's a good deal.

Can you provide more info? Which agent, airlines and route?

gone up a bit with fuel prices and some closed airspace.
At the time Finnair was the cheapest. But one must stop in Helsinki.
Swiss was second cheapest they are owned by Lufthansa. Our cheap fare had a minor drawback: Miami - Zurich was in the cheaper B777 instead the B787. Continental was carrying us half the way. No complaints.
It pays to check both websites Lufthansa and Swiss then check all others like Singaporeair etc.

        • Thank you!
Will need to do more research on these

  • Syd to Doha is no longer in Q suites, they’ve changed planes.

In a RTW ticket you’re unable to fly through the same airport again that may be why you’re receiving an error.
