Replacement Car during Car Repair (Sydney)

Anyone knows a good deal on replacement car hire during car repaire? My car needs to be fixed and will be out of action for at least a week.
Need a cheap place to hire another car during this period (work and sending kids to school etc). I checked a few websites and the prices are too expensive for a whole week car hire. Hoping to find a good promo code for car hire companies.
Unfortunately my insurance policy does not offer replacement car.
Any advices would be helpful.

I assume this is accident repairs, rather than servicing/mechanical failure because you mention insurance.

Were you at-fault? Some insurers include free rental cars if you're not-at-fault, otherwise places like Right2Drive will provide a car charged to the at-fault's insurer if your insurer doesn't provide this (I know some of the budget places don't, whereas QBE, NRMA, Allianz do).

Insurers started providing cars on not-at-fault claims to cut out places like Right2Drive, as they charge rates that are borderline extortion - $150/day for a Corolla or i30 isn't uncommon, whereas insurers pay ~$40/days on their negotiated rates.

yep, if not at fault, call the 'at fault' insurer and request to either organise a hire car for the required period, or expect to receive an invoice from someone like right2drive against the at fault insurer/party.
99.9 times out of 100 the insurer will organise you the vehicle.

(if you're at fault…well… thats the risk you took)

      • Yep agreed with calling the other party's insurer. I've called RACQ before, and they arranged it then and there once I quoted the claim number.

(Obviously not for the OP in this case as they are at-fault)

The whole family rely heavily on car and you chose not to include "car replacement" in your policy. Wait, I am just assuming this is accident/incident related why you don't have car for a week.

This is actually a valid comment. For future reference, if your insurance doesn't provide that , that policy isn't for you.

      • Only problem at the moment is that most insurers only give 14 days of coverage, and repairs are taking a lot longer than that because parts are getting affected by COVID supply chain issues.

        • You can ask them to extend it so it goes longer than 14 days

@kerfuffle: When you're at-fault, they usually only cover 14 days per most PDS' I've seen.

Only one I've seen so far that gives unlimited in Suncorp Comprehensive Advantages, but thats around $200 more than their normal comprenhensive product

  • Yeah its us at-fault therefore we can't get a car from the insurance company.

  • No Birds car rentals?

    • Thanks man let me check their price

  • Try Car next door.

  • last time I heard rent-a-bomb can be quite cheap, not shiny 1 year old car but does the job.

    • They dont offer service in Sydney

  • Buy a $2k corolla/Mazda. Sell for $2k when done.

I hired a car from this place in Windsor when I got a spray in liner for my ute. It was an old Corolla with -200k kms but it was just $30 for 24hrs. Did the job for me. They have a range of cars.
