  • Great for next time I use my phone as a bookmark

This is only as good as range of bluetooth right? So how will this help to find lost child and pets?

    • Shhhhhh your child is hiding under their bed. That's how.

    • Helpful if you lose your child or pet behind the sofa cushions…

    • Range of 30m outdoors, yikes

      • Very useful if it was your neighbour that stole your wallet (and possibly they are rifling through it in their backyard).

        • sounds like you're not getting along with your neighbours atm…

So, almost not fit for purpose?

    • how about the equivalent thing from apple. not bluetooth? range is far ?

      • Apple's version apparently utilises other Apple devices in the wild to assist with location, so it's theoretically better in that regard.

But AirTags not having a function to make your phone ring (as this Baseus one claims to be able to do) is just really stupid.

        • "utilises other Apple devices in the wild"

huh? does it ask the owners of those devices for permissions fore utilising them?

          • @CyberMurning: Nope.Have a look on the topic.

Apple created a mesh network of all Apple devices that piggypacks information to Apple.

Apple AirTags are simply Blueooth 5.3 + Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices that beam out on occasion saying "I'm here!".

The difference is that you can lose your AirTag anywhere in the world and you can see it…
So long as there is an Apple device close enough to register it and inform of it's rough position on Earth.

My opinion is that they shouldn't have done it and have released a pandoras box.
Amazon has it's own mesh network and pretty sure there is some evidence for Google going the same way.

            • @String name: yes agree. soon someone will be able to crack/hack it and it just like walking with metal detector on the street and able to see those tags

              • @CyberMurning: Was hacked* around 4 days later after it released, sorry mate :p

                * firmware dumped and I believe custom firmware flashed

Tracking devices generally make use of a network of mobile devices. Your phone may not be within bluetooth range, but another phone with the tracking software installed might be.

For example, Tile (who makes some of the best known trackers) has hundreds of thousands of users around the world and their phones will have the Tile app installed. In relatively populated areas, it seems fairly likely that one of those users' phones will be near your tracker within a reasonable period of time, and can notify the Tile network of that device's approximate location.

The reason Apple's Airtag tracker is very successful is that every modern iPhone and iPad has the appropriate software already installed without user intervention. Instead of being limited only to fellow users of trackers (as Tile is), a very significant portion of the general population is able to assist with locating your tracker.

In the case of obscure products by Baseus, the installed base of phones with tracking software is likely to be very small, so your own phone is going to need to be close by in almost every circumstance.

        • every modern iPhone and iPad has the appropriate software already installed without user intervention

Technically, iPhone users need to opt in to the "Find My Phone" feature in order for them to become part of the "Find My" network, however most people do.

Also, FYI, other device manufacturers are now able to use Apple's "Find My" network through their Find My Network Accessory Program, so this feature is not exclusive to Apple Aitrags. The Chipolo ONE tag is pretty much the same as an Airtag and uses Apple's "Find My" network, but it costs the same, so no real reason to choose them over Airtags.

          • @Mikeypants: Actually that one is quite attractive to me - it can access Apple's "Find My" network but is also Android compatible. It might actually be better than the Tile devices I currently have.

I would use AirTags if I had an iPhone, but I can't live with their walled garden.

  • Landfill 🤦‍♂️

What advantages does this have to say AirTags, which can also easily be fed to a child to track their movements.

    • this one cheaper. period.
i didnt say its good, only cheaper

    • Airtags… Fed to a child? I microchip mine.

      • I microchip mine

Sounds much easier. I hear that airtags taste like vegetables, so many kids won't touch them

  • Someone in our neighbourhood has something like this product on their cat's collar, then let the cat roam freely, kill birds, etc., and if anyone complains they say they know where it is???

  • Some of the bottom images aren't showing up for me. But it shows suitcases on a airport terminal belt, was wondering can you like, reverse it's feature and make it beep when it comes within range? Or does it not update quick enough to be able to even do something like this?
    TIA! <3
