Xplane 11/12 Unconstrained New Build Gaming PC Configuration

Hi fellow gamers/flight sim folks,

I've decided to upgrade my current build (~2014 era) PC for something a bit newer. I'm not asking for a total build or whatnot just looking for tips.

I don't really "game" in the traditional sense but run Xplane for synthetic flight training. I use macs for everything else (work etc) so this will basically be a one purpose computer. I tend to do an insane amount of research and then just pull the trigger, but it's been so long since I built a gaming PC that everything I know is now out of date.

No real pricing limits per se (within reason), but I am happy to wait/substitute if the prices on a particular item are out of control (like DDR5 etc). I know the 3090ti will be released soon and figured I might as well get cracking. Looking to spend somewhere around $5-6k (or less) ideally.

I will be using a triple monitor setup with precision flight controls avionics setup and garmin displays.

At the moment:
i9 12000 processor
?64GB+ of DDR4
graphics card as above (3090ti)

Essentially the main requirements are triple monitor 4k capability and outstanding graphics performance. Or instead of the triple monitors perhaps one of the new 4k/5k 49 inch curved displays.

Cheers

Any helpful hints? I'll get stuck into research this weekend. Edit: I've just found PCpartpicker and it's a lifesaver.

If I was going to put that much Money in id consider saving the money on the 3090 and getting a 3080TI and selling - purchasing the 40XX series when they come out

    • Thanks mavis

Is there an actual decent market for used cards? I'm just wondering how someone would trust me enough to buy one lol.

I think the reason I am trying to go overkill is so I can run the same setup for longer.

      • Its easy to sell used video cards. A smart buyer will do their due dilligence and ask for warranty and for you to test though.

There's a guy here selling a current machine that will play most modern games.

I'll try and find the link.

      Built 12 months ago?

        That's the one.

  • I'm actually curious with your Xplane setup & why you need such a beefy specs just for running a flight simulator game.
Do you have a lot of add-ons & scenery for Xplane?

      Sorry about the delayed reply.

I'm running a curved 49" 5k display, as well as an instructor station monitor to change the parameters etc so you dont have to fiddle around too much. Also there are multiple HDMIs needed for the garmin glass cockpit. (https://realsimgear.com/products/realsimgear-g1000-suite-for…) It's not for commercial use but it needs to be as realistic as possible.

I built it over the weekend and it's working great.

My final specs ended up being:

      i9-12000K
      Z690 Hero ROG motherboard
128gb Crucial 4800 DDR 5 (this was on sale at amazon for only 299 for EACH 32gb stick)
      Galax 3080 RTX 12gb
Corsair H150i cooler (without the dumb LCD option)
      Samsung 980 SSD 1tb
      Fractal Design Meshify S2 Case
      Vertical GPU mount

      Monitor
Samsung Oddysey 9 49" (haven't noticed any bleeding)
