Early Bird Parking

"If you have booked an Early Bird Parking product and leave prior to the Early Bird Parking departure conditions, you will no longer be eligible for Early Bird Parking and will be charged the appropriate fees for Casual Hourly Parking. To continue and exit, just enter your PIN at the Secure-a-Spot PIN pad and this amount will be charged to your nominated credit card. We will email you to advise the rate charged."

My question is, what is the logic behind charging me standard parking rate when I leave the car park prior to the Early Bird Parking departure conditions.
I'm leaving them a space for them to potentially earn more money.

I'm happy to pay the extra, just trying to understand.

  • They get you to pay extra. Simple as that.

  • cause you pay more money, its business, the logic is simple.
same reason one way flights can be more than a return

  • What are the early bird conditions?

    • Most are like enter between 6 and 10 a.m. and leave between 3 and 7 p.m.

The way I see it, people who use early bird generally drive to/from work (hence the entry and exit times line up with traditional start/finish times) and it is paid from their own pocket - make them pay $60 and they'll seek alternative transport = lost revenue.

People who park for a couple of hours (enter at 9am and leave at noon, etc.) are generally on work/business trips and someone else is paying for parking, so cost doesn't matter. This is reflected in the price ($20/hour compared to $20-30/day for EB)

  • FWIW, have used Wilson's Parking for years and never had an extra charge from leaving early.

  • Market segmentation

It's the same reason that Netflix has different prices in different countries. It's the same reason that return airfares with a large period of stay is cheaper than one with a short period.

It applies to early bird parking in the way that "ol mate" describes.

Because it makes them more money, simple as that!! But I do get your point, but from their point of view. If early bird parking is $30 a day and you only park for 2 hours, that might normally be $20/hr, they are missing out on $10.
