This is their regular multi buy price for their own branded wines.
Has been so for at least 5+ years. Not really a deal.
Don't waste your $6. Just go to ALDI and get a $3 one instead. Pretty much same quality.

These are between 12.5-14.5% alcohol and last I checked the cheap Aldi wines are less than half of that so it depends why you're buying them I suppose.

      • False
        They are normal 13.5% wine

        • @TanedaR You're right. You'd struggle to find a red wine with alcohol levels lower than the ranges quoted as you'd be drinking sweet red wine - still red, with the sweetness of Moscato - not a big market for that :-)

    • Location: QLD

  • Seems to be the same price in Sydney

Buy a few decent bottles than 6 crap ones. Your taste buds will thank you.

I've had the cab sauv here and it was a struggle.

Seconded - spend up a little more and find some quality.

      • And the Shiraz was hard work for me. Although I guess some may like it.
        Not gunna buy that again.

  • Also 2 for $15 at Liquorland if you aren't feeling brave enough for 6: https://www.liquorland.com.au/red-wine/parson-s-paddock-shir…

that are usually $16 a pop.

No, they're usually 6 for $36, they just bump up the price every 3-4mths so they can claim it's on special.

    • hahaha. :-)

You might get in trouble for revealing Coles marketing strategy.

    • Splashed out & bought 6. A mate drinks a lot of red & informs me they're pretty decent for the price.

      • No it's crap, unless you age it for a few years (after 5yrs past the year on the bottle it's quick good).

The Zilzie stuff is better for the same price.
But if you're drinking red under 3yrs, go for.l Cab Merlot, Merlot,.Tempranillo or the "red blend". Shiraz & CabSab are just too rough, especially at the lower price point.

But if you do get young stuff, pop it in the fridge (or put some ice in) for a bit as it'll take some of the harshness away.

Seriously this is the usual price for 40-45wks/yr if you want something next step.up, try the Pensilva, the Shiraz is great value for $10. Grab some of the 2019 before the next vintage comes out.

Without commenting specifically on the wines which I don't know.
You are correct, those lighter style reds (Merlot, Tempranillo) ordinarily will drink well young, it's not entirely right that the Shiraz and Cabernet will benefit from aging - at this type of price point from (likely) irrigated regions where fruit quality is broadly lesser, where there'd be minimal use of oak (likely oak staves or oak 'teabags'), it's unlikely to get much better than when you take the screwcap off.
These commodity type wines are unashamedly made in a drink now style - nothing wrong with that especially as the average 'cellaring' of wine in Australia is about 45 minutes!
Cooling wine down will also dull the primary fruit flavours and accentuate any tannins - that can be the source of the harshness - along with any acidity.
All the debate is making me keen to pick up a six pack to see what they're all about :-)
          Cheers! RD :-)
