Hi, teenager needs a phone plan with unlimited calls internet (of course) and phone any good deals?

My son is about to buy a new phone, has had the iPhone 3 for 22 mths and wants to change, thinking he wants Telstra as he has had Optus with his current phone and often the reception is dreadful. Anyone know any good deals before he gets talked into anything by the Telstra rep? thanks

You wont get any help from a rep. Telstra know they have a good product and dont have to discount it.

  • The return question to yourself is.. WHERE is the service going to be used the most often ? .. Suburbs or CBD / metro area? and which state.

I can only comment on Melb/VIC. I have a OPTUS / Virgin & Voda line each. and out of them , surprisingly, virgin & voda do reasonably well in comparison. I've been told why I've had ridiculously poor reception with optus is because they over subscribe customers within a certain area, therefore it ends up being a snatch and grab of service. thumbs down sadly.

i recently moved over the voda, primarily for two reasons. a) free calls to people on the same network, and also, where i am located which is less than 500m from victoria market, i CANNOT seem to get a stable / good connection with optus, but surprisingly i can with voda.. ( not to mention how they advertize upgrading the network, and we all know how many people left them last 2 yrs or so..) … so yeah.. no over subscription problems there i would believe ;D

just my two thoughts.. phones with good deals, at the moment are galaxy sii, but if he's willing to wait it out.. usually better deals are out eofy period.. esp JUST after june 1 or june 31…

    my two thoughts imho only..

  • He will mostly be in the southern highlands west Sydney area, and that is why he is saying Telstra, we have optus on my phone and I need to stand outside in the paddock on a hill to get good reception. Thanks

  • Amaysim offer excellent deals capped at $40/month with no commitment, unlimited Aust calls and text and including plenty of data
Basically locking in your cost there - might be good with teenagers
But they use the Optus network so if that's no go then Telstra it is
No real discounts with Telstra and their inclusions eg data are lower than the competition

  • yes, thanks, I am thinking he is going to use Telstra was just hoping to save some $$ and this is the place to find the bargains, many thanks
