PS3 Avenger Controller Adaptor USD $29.99 + USD $9.49 Postage, ThinkGeek

41

Was on the ThinkGeek website and saw that this was on special for the PS3 version. Doing a rudimentary check of the internet I couldn't quickly find any better.
Basically this is an adaptor that you clip onto your PS3 controller that allows for each finger to control a different button. Supposedly gives you that half a second quicker reaction time where you don't have to move a finger.
I didn't buy it so have no idea what price it converts to in Australian dollars.

Gimmick. How many "competitive" console games require the right stick and face buttons constantly?

Plus do you really want to support these guys?

Perhaps it's useful for those with certain disabilities

    • Heh. Just made an account to link that, the company's rep is just awful.

Will never buy a single thing from this company.

EDIT: It appears that this was just their hired marketing rep (read: unabashed cock-head), not the makers of the Avenger themselves.

Read this recent article from Kotaku for an update to the mess: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2012/04/avenger-controller-creator-…

      • what have done? Why did you post the like?

I spent last hour reading links after links about this PR mess!

        :P

Make sure you pick all the "Avenger Controller PR Mess" questions next time you're on Jeopardy :P
As a side note; I think it's interesting that you said "like" when you meant "link" and AnkhWeasel above wrote "link" when he meant "like".

The guys who actually created the Avenger Controller weren't the ones responsible for that. It was a marketing company they hired to sell the product — they were just as appalled as everyone else was, and promptly fired Ocean Marketing once they found out.

Ocean Marketing was an advertising partner of the guys who made this controller. And the guy who went on that ridiculous spiel was just a bad egg, no point in demonising the product because of this.

    • I agree it's a gimmick. I think it's meant for stuff like COD. For the people who think they'll be disadvantaged by having to move a thumb off the viewing stick to change weapons etc. Oh and it takes slightly less force to pull the trigger. Personally I don't think it will help that much

Agree with the guys above, Ocean Marketing is the one to blame and not the company. Those who think otherwise are ill informed…

The company who produces this even went on to donate $10k to Childs Play (charity run by Penny Arcade guys) to show their goodwill.

If you read around this product is great for people with certain disabilities - and hey in my opinion anything that helps those who are not as lucky as most of us to have properly functioning body play games is good in my books!

  • Wow there's some uninformed people on here tonight.

  • From what i can see you still have to move your finger from the stick to press A/X

  • Now this is why consoles suck, inputs are terrible

    • As a PC gamer who bought a Wii and PS3, Wii controls are fantastic… PS3 controls are difficult for FPS to get used to.

Still, worth it for sitting in front of the TV in the living room instead of tucked away in a man-cave.

  • Watched the video… looks difficult.

From memory, the initial development of this product came out of a man creating a controller that could be used by the disabled. (people with one hand, limited movement, etc). I think it still could be useful in that regard.

At some point focus was changed to make this a '1337 skillz' gaming device.

  • Claw Controller Grip - $0

Alternatively, play the controller upside down or flipped in reverse

    Save yourself the cash.
