You can already get online uni classes from Stanford, Berkeley, etc. at sites like http://www.coursera.org However you don't get any credit, just a certificate of completion if you pass. This MIT offering seems to offer some credential called MITx. Presumably they will need a way of verifying the person "attending" classes and taking the exam.
