Free Dungeons & Dragons Module "Lost Mine of Phandelver" for Online Virtual Tabletop Game (Was US$14.99) @ Roll20

270

Edit - Looking back, I didn't put enough effort into this post - probably too excited about being able to post a bargain instead of finding out I've been beaten to the punch.

Anyway - I received an email from Roll20 this morning letting me know I can get a free official DnD Module/Campaign to keep just like those temporary free games offered by Epic.

You'll need to register a free basic tier Roll20 account to "purchase" the module if that wasn't already obvious.

For those wondering wtf Roll20 is.

It's a virtual tabletop website that enables people to play TTRPGs like D&D, Shadowrun, Pathfinder and many others.

They have an online store that sells the official source, rule & adventure module books that plug in making it easy run a game virtually and remotely with others. You are not limited to this material, you can upload your own games, pictures, maps, whatever you want.

Since before a teenage I always wanted to give D&D a go but lacked friends who were interested in RL. Meeting randoms wasn't an option at that age and internet was a lot different then.

Not long before Covid was a thing - I started playing it with some WoW guildees
using Roll20, [DnD Beyond] (https://www.dndbeyond.com/) and a web browser addon [Beyond20] (https://beyond20.here-for-more.info/) - I havent stopped playing since.

It's free to create basic membership accounts with both Roll20 & DnD Beyond so people can try and play it for free. Should it hook you in, they offer multiple tiers of priced memberships that come with extra/benefits and perks.

They both offer digital purchases/sales on rulebooks with their respective marketplaces. This is the first time since I started playing that personally I've seen a DnD sourcebook be offered for free on Roll20 but i could have just missed previous emails…

Anyway - if you are interested yet apprehensive. You'll find Looking for Players/DM's notices in the forums on both Roll20 & DnD Beyond. There's many discord communities that offer the same. I think I've joined 3 or 4 at least. My experience playing with strangers thus far is great.

Very welcoming/patient with people new to the game, and often preferred when its the Dungeon/Game Masters first time running a game. Anyway TLDR. If you've ever wanted to try to play a TTRPG, but your real life mates didn't - this is how you can give it a go.

As per the email:

"Explore subterranean labyrinths, plunder hoards of treasure, and battle legendary monsters in Lost Mine of Phandelver, free on Roll20 through the end of April!

• 27 creatures with in-app drag-and-drop, like the iconic bugbear, doppelganger, and a young dragon
• 7 full-color maps with GM layer information (and Updated Dynamic Lighting support for Plus/Pro subscribers)

• Over 13 unique items with drag-and-drop support, including the gauntlets of ogre power, the potion of flying and a wand of magic missiles

It all starts on the road to Phandalin, a small village with big problems…"

Roll20s forum can be found here with a reps post about it.

Works if you have an account. As soon as u log in you'll see the offer. Cheers OP

  • I've claimed it before, kind of used up the campaign (used character sheets, killed and moved monsters around) and was able to claim it again.

This stuff can be "used up"?

      That's lame. Will stay away.

    • What? They're not single use, you create a Game and use the module as the template

Yeah but I've moved all the monsters from combat and used the character sheets. Like writing in your DnD book.

        • Have you tried creating another new game and using those templates again?

        • It's more like writing in a photocopy of your book.
You just start a new game and it will be as it was when you purchased for that game.

  • Sweet. Halfway through this with my son and nephew so good timing

  • Thanks OP! :)
