Where to sell Pool Heat pump heater

Hi all,

I have a (expensive) heat pump, which is only just over a year old, and is worth 13+k new. I’ve never seen used HP for sale, and as such have no idea where to sell it. Genuinely nothing wrong with it, is a very highly rated brand, has balance of warranty etc etc. it’s a 3 phase model.

I’m considering upgrading my pool heater to a larger one- I have a complicated situation in where my pool essentially sits inside the water table, so I have big heat loss continually and it really annoys me. I will need to move to gas or commercial sized heating to maintain year round swimming like I need to, or figure out a way to “buffer” the pool from the extremely shallow water table (at least 50kl if pool volume sits below the water table) Pool is approx 100kL.

Long story short, where to sell expensive pool gear?

Try your local pool supply store and ask if they'll be interested in selling it on consignment for you.

They may also put up a 'For Sale' sign in the window for you if you ask nicely.

Google swimming pool forums and post your enquiry there also.

  • Ask the business that you’re buying the new heater from. They may be able to offer a trade in price, take it on consignment, or at least may have an idea of where to sell it.

I've seen them on ebay/facebook etc for sale. The problem is, you won't get anywhere near the price you want for it, as most people don't DIY install and source them via the installer etc. So they are slow movers, go cheap. Mostly sold to people replacing broken units.

Rather than upgrade to a single mega unit, why not just install a second heat pump and run them both together.

But you might also need to look at options to insulate the pool to stop the heat loss. You'll be pumping huge amounts of heat into the pool/ground area year round unless you can slow down the heat loss.

    • You’re absolutely right. If I can’t sell it for a reasonable price, I would be far better off financially simply doubling up on what I have, I never considered that option.

I’d love to insulate it, problem is how do you insulate something immersed in water?
