Where to replace my prescription lenses using my frame (not looking to buy a new frame)

Hi everyone,

I've never only replaced lenses but I like my current frame and would like to keep them and just replace my prescription lenses.
I have no experience in that department so I thought I'd ask the community in case there were things I should know.

So far I only talked to Specsaver who quoted me $180 for the reglaze but the main issue is that it takes them 3 weeks to to the reglaze which would be inconvenient.

I'm in Sydney, does anyone know a good place that does precription lense replacement with a shorter turnaround time?

Thank you

    • Thanks mate, I just called them, they said 2-4 days.
Have you used them in the past? Are they reliable?
I'm going to their shop this afternoon

      • I’ve used Optically. Prompt and efficient.

AVOID LIKE the plague! Still waiting 2 1/2 weeks for a Refund, for incorrect glasses ordered in January.

  • Call specsavers again and check if they take 3 weeks to get the lenses in or need your glasses for three weeks.

    • She made it clear they needed my glasses for 3 weeks as she said that I had to consider that I wouldn't have my glasses for 3 weeks then tried to push me to buy a new frame

  • I've been with my mates to the optometrist and they do it straightaway if it's not busy.

    • The new lenses need to be ordered and this takes a few weeks. The lenses need to be made to fit the frame.

Once the lenses arrive and are for the frame then yes it only takes a few minutes to swap the lenses.

      • that makes sense… I guess for you, it's finding a place for that has those particular lenses then rather than the process.

        • NOT me.

          • @AndyC1: serves me right for not reading properly! 🤣

@bobbified: Should have gone to specsavers eh?

              • @Hithere: lol. OP didn't say anywhere that the 3 weeks was because they need to order the lens, but AndyC1 who replied to my comment saying that it's the ordering of the lens that's going to take 3 weeks - so I assumed that he was the OP. 😁

not easy to find one in Sydney actually… I'll wait for my next trip back to Vietnam. Eyes check + lense replacement can be done within 1 hour

  • Owndays did a lens replacement for me last year for $200 with blue light filter (other places charged $400+). There doesn't seem to be an absorption/diffusion layer though so other people will see the reflected blue light - but hey, $200!

Basic replacement fee is $100 and last time they took about 3 days since they do the grinding in house.

Make sure to bring the lens grinding guide for your specific glasses (the black plastic lens shaped thing with holes in it) so they get it 100% accurate.

  • Vision Direct. you can post them your frames.

There's a place in Meadowbank that does it on the spot. It took me 30 mins when they weren't busy. They supply Optically as I bought glasses from then better and I wanted to pick it up early and they gave me the address which was this place . No harm calling them to ask.

If they supply Optically, avoid! We ordered in January, lots of delays, excuses, etc. Still waiting on a refund after 19 days!

  • You were able to write all that without any spell mistakes- i'd say your vision is good and dont need new lens.

Disclaimer- i'm not an optometrist/opthalm etc
