Because it takes longer to walk to the bar from the front row?

  • Because money.

The closer you get to Cristiano Ronaldo the more you wish you were further away from him.

    • What's the recovery time for an ACL? World up is in November… we can hope….

      • Adam Doeuhi from the West Tigers is out till next year with an ACL. He injured it August last year.

      • Normally looking at minimum 6 months, usually more like 8-9 or more.

The higher up seats may have a better view.

At Docklands that was the case. Not sure where this one is being played.

Yeah, I'd imagine sitting that low when the pitch is actually quite far away would make it quite hard to see what is going on.

Not this game or a recent one for that matter but you get the idea. Look how far away you are:

Melbourne Victory Vs Liverpool back in 2013

Edit: There's even all the, is it advertising boarding?, players sitting there? possibly obstructing your view. No wonder they are $60.

      • Is that mcg? What section and row was that? Cant see which players…

        • No idea. I got the photo from a smh article from 2014

          smh

Because when, not if, it starts raining, you will wish you bought up under cover and not out in the open.

And I like to sit much further up at football games because I can see much more of the game from up higher than what I can down in the front row.

I will bring my controller to the game

The MCG is a terrible venue for soccer, particularly when it is only a 'friendly' pre-season match between two foreign clubs.
Almost no atmosphere, long distance between patrons and the game, premium players likely to only play half a game, and high prices.

Got a ticket to the Friday game i wouldnt say it is cheap the MCG is rubbish for Soccer/football if you are to close you cant se anything if you are to far you cant see anything.

would rather pay double and have it at AAMI Park

Got given a ticket to a World Cup qualifier at Docklands - was sitting at the bottom and could hardly see anything. Pitch was far away and they had high advertising boards all around the square in the middle with photographers standing right behind them blocking the view. I imagine the MCG would be even worse

Because ManU are a mid-table club

  • +1

if it doesn't get sold out, they want as much people close to the sides so when they are televising it, it looks packed

  • It’s a weekday game, first of all, so that would take out kids attending

  • Because both teams are rubbish

Because we call it soccer instead of football. If AFL were a global sport and Man U were an AFL team, then you'd pay a lot more to see them in Melbourne. If the Americans held their Super Bowl in Melbourne and only Australians could buy tickets and attend, then tickets to that would probably be even cheaper because we care even less about NFL than we do about soccer.

I very rarely go to live sport but when I do I always have the same reaction - this is so much worse than seeing it on tv.

    • +1

In terms of pure viewing this is often true.
However there is something special about the atmosphere at a good live event with a good crowd that can't be matched by watching at home.
And if you are an enthusiast in many sports you get a different perspective by being able to see the whole pitch (if you have a good view), so can see patterns of play etc etc etc
And in other sports like tennis you get a much better appreciation of the speed of the game and how good the players actually are - everything looks slowed down on TV
