  • $4999 ride away

    • so I shouldn't negotiate at all?

  • Good luck offering a low ball price with a dealer. You'll probably be shown the door.
Best you could hope for would be some add-on products

    • $4500 or just take $4999?

  • +3

    $999 off? Good luck.

I don't want to being rude to dealer

Just say you're here to buy. Cash ready to go, give me your best price.
    Don't waste the dealers time.

    • $4,500? or no room to move at all?

      • +1

if you're so set on 4500 just offer 4500.

If you get laughed out of the lot, you only have yourself to blame :)

know is different but $5,000 to $10,000 discount

…lol maybe in dodgy second hand dealers.

Try buying a brand new current gen ute and asking for $10k off. In fact, current gen ANYTHING.

            • -4

@Jimothy Wongingtons: I sell new cars but yep… 3 years ago, no discount at all, and ute, mate, is $10,000 up already , look at hilux price, omg!

@[Deactivated]: Please tell me you get time wasters all day asking for 20% off list.

                • @Jimothy Wongingtons: Following comments base on before CODIV,

HOT family SUV— discount. $1000? or free service/ fuel card

UTE, the brand i work for has no ute

car sitting in the yard for over 1 year, open to any offer or they go to pickles.

but time wasters for me? is more like,( after 15-20 mins test drive , thank you, is a nice car (of course is a nice car, is over $100K mate), I am going home now, then never answer follow up call. for low ball offer, at least.. they wants to buy a car.

now, if you ask for discount. (the door is behind you)

                  • @[Deactivated]: Ok.

                    You've got me stumped.

No utes in the lineup but cars worth over $100k.

I'm thinking luxury Euro but the HOT SUV is confusing me.

                    I give up. Which brand?

@Muzeeb: If it goes to pickles its a mcsharty Audi

                    • @Muzeeb: Sorry I am not comfortable to tell people where I am as Canberra is small, I already feel sad this morning from some comment.

                    • @Muzeeb: actually I might delete this post after I bought the bike around lunch time… thanks again MS paint… I might put a new post about how much i paid for it and that it, I hope my purchase price can help the people who is also looking for this bike, cheers

                      • @[Deactivated]: It's not lunchtime yet?

Congratulations on the purchase. Remember to punch that redline occasionally to blow out the cobwebs. Stay upright buddy.

Live a little… offer a $1 and start walking the bike out the door.

    • $1 discount? um….

      • +2

No, Just $1 it works really.

        • $1 cant get me a Sundae!

        • +3

This $1 trick, that really works, and motorcycle dealerships hate.

At the bottom end of the market you will be lucky to get anything off the sticker price. There would not even be 10% profit in it let alone the ability to give a discount.

    • Thank you!

    • one the sales told me that they have too many of this bike in stock and hard to move it, that's why I want to negotiate a bit.

  • +1

Genuine question - why would you want a 150cc and why would you want a brand new 150cc?

It's difficult to see a use case for these here in Oz.

If it's your first bike you should really buy second hand. You will likely drop it or do something stupid as you learn.

If it's a CBD commuter there are way better, cheaper and more comfortable options.

    • Thanks for your comment, I had a 2017 Ninja 300 for a while, considering 150 is because Canberra cost only $300 (12 months rego) for bike under 300cc.. why new bikes?.. Myself i sell new and used car, it just for peace of mind. when I ride my 300, i never rev over 5000, i love my bike and car

      • Ok, just keep in mind they are absolutely gutless (especially coming from a Ninja 300) and you'll lose 40% value the second you ride away. No one wants them second hand unless they're cheap (and thus why you should really consider second hand).

You'd be lucky to get a $100 discount or a crappy $99 helmet thrown in to be honest. They are the equivalent of loss leaders.

        • +2

Op forgot to mention this is his investment vehicle

          • @Jimothy Wongingtons: my company car got cancelled so I need a transportation.. this bike only cost me $300 for yearly rego, and 155cc is cheap to run

        • Thank you zeggie I will make sure I test ride it

      • +1

Then buy something else. Look at something like the NK range of bikes from CF Moto. The 300NK is under 300cc, but it’s about $500 more than what you can get the Yamaha for, but you are getting a bigger bike with more power.

Or there is the 150NK, same size engine wise, but it’s only about $3500 brand new.

And if you are not riding a small bore bike at above 5000rpm, you are probably doing more harm than good. If you want to lug a bike down in that rev range, get a bigger bike. Go for a 650ish twin or a 450ish single.

        • Thank you pegaxs, you are right I was looking for a CFmotor 300sr with only $3,500 and under 2000km on it but it has been dropped so I didnt move forward with it, my dream bike is always super sport looking. (I know is stupid again that I buy super sport but not rev over 5000), but life is short, I just want it even i know is not the best for me, but thanks again for your post, I am sure your comments will help a lots of other people

Why? I used to hit 15000 daily.

        • In my mind… high rev damages gearbox and engine….

@[Deactivated]: What’s the redline? That’ll give you an indication of what revs the manufacturer has designed for.

Are you sure you are a new car salesman? I’d hate to hear what other BS you tell customers.

            • @Euphemistic: but everyone is different, why are you trying to stop me not reving to redline… I am afraid to ride fast….. I am really confused now….

              • +1

                @[Deactivated]:

                In my mind…

Not really a valid source of information

high rev damages gearbox and engine….

So can under revving it. Keeping such a small engine under constant load is not a good thing. It causes a lot more wear to try and make the engine work harder than it needs to. Peak torque in the R15 V3 engine is around 8,500rpm, with peak power around 10,000 rpm. Riding it around at 5,000rpm is going to make it dangerously slow and woefully under-powered.

why are you trying to stop me not reving to redline… I am afraid to ride fast

It's a 155cc bike. It is designed to rev this fast. And "reving to redline" is not the same as "riding fast". The bike has a gearbox on it for a reason. The reason is so you can keep the bike in the optimal rev range for its power, so you get the most from the bike when you need it. Riding small capacity bikes around at well under their desired rev range is probably MORE dangerous than "going fast" (which they really don't do.) as you will have no pawer when you need it. If you are at 3,500rpm and your torque is all the way up at 8,500rpm, you are going to need a lot of time to get from 3.5 to 8.5 if you need it.

That being said, you do not need to ride the bike around on the redline, but you need to do your homework and work out where the optimal operating range is for your bike. Saying "I dont rev it over 5,000" is ignorant at best and dangerous at worst.

  • you definitely should negotiate, you dont get what you dont ask for mate. BUT set your own internal final price and walk away if you dont hit that price. Dealerships are pretty set on price so unlikely youll get 4k but you may get 4.5-4.7K, OR 4999 WITH extras

    • Thank you! few comment of this post makes me think that I am stupid/crazy/dumb/noob

      • BUT YOU WORK FOR A DEALER?

        • again.. not motocycle! Also computing… i am thinking to get a 3080ti for my 1080p mon.. which is 100% stupid..

      • this community can be really negative and condescending but trust me when i say there are a lot of great people that are both intelligent and willing to reply with useful advice, just need to ignore the haters

        • Thanks again joeynn, you are right, even the sun can't get everyone to like it.

  • They dealership is making around $200 on that bike sale.

They are relying on sales numbers for the month and kickbacks from Yamaha corporate.

If the bike has been on display for several months then they most likely have had to purchase it and will want to move it on. Only then might you get a better discount but that's purely for the dealership cashflow.

    • Thanks MS paint, I think you replied few of my post now, last week I saw a RC390 which is priced at $6795 and they considered $6000 but I am too slow so it got sold. That's how I got the $999 off this time, but it looks like I can only get lucky once. Thanks again for all your comment.

On a bike that cheap, there would be about $1~200 worth of margin in that sale. There is no way that you are getting 20% off a bike at that end of the price scale unless it is new old stock and has been on the floor for 3 years and still not sold.

At the moment, bikes are worse than cars to buy because what do people buy when they can’t go to Bali and Thailand on sex tours “family holidays”? They buy toys. And motorcycles are one of the leading “big boys toys” that they can burn their early release super and WFH wages on (next to boats, sports cars and personal watercraft.)

If you want $1000 off, buy a used one. There is a good chance it will have between 1000 and 3000km, and only 12 to 18 months old and be basically brand new.

    • Thank you pegaxs for your long comment, lucky that I asked here before I go, now I won't get punch on the face

  • Not sure if serious.

You work in new car sales. You should know how it works. Do you throw out any customer that makes a low ball offer, or do you negotiate? You are talking 20% off. What percentage off do you allow customers to get away with?

Plus, what others have said. It’s already at the low end of the market so won’t have massive margins.

    • Sorry I didnt think like %, is my bad, in dealer, we price the car like $XX,800 or $XX,920 or $1X1,500 so we can offer customer a flat price.. I just though is the same situation here..

  • So isn't this Yamaha r15 v3 just a loss leader to lure people in to upsell them to something else…

    • Sad
