Decent Car Dash Cams - Suitable for 2020 Cerato?

Hi guys!

I'm taking delivery of my first ever car, a used 2020 Kia Cerato!
I'm pretty excited and have made the payment and hopefully will pick it up on Friday

My question is - What are some good dash cams for a medium budget? I don't want to skimp out and buy the cheapest one - but don't particularly need something too expensive, say up to $200? Perhaps more for installation as well.

In your own experiences, do you think it is worth having a front and rear facing camera - is it worth the hassle or will a front one only suffice?

Also I am keen to get a camera that can be wired in a way that most of the cables are hidden or at least clean - I am located in Victoria, if you know anyone who can install some dash cams well for a decent price, let me know.

Thank you!

    Private sale or dealer?

    • Dealer - didn't want the hassle of private, I inspected several private cars and most of them had issues that weren't really evident in pictures or disclosed.
      Did I screw up?

Hope you got it inspected by the NRMA, RACQ or RACV etc as dealers are not good with used cars.

      • No

  • Viofo or the 70mai pro plus are my picks for decent dash cams. If hardwiring then get the rear camera installed. Front camera only is fairly easy to install yourself.

VIOFO Dual Dash Cam, 2K 1440P 60fps+1080P (A129 Plus Duo) $195.50 Delivered @ VIOFO via Amazon AU

Great Dash Cams at a good price, has a internal capacitor not a battery. I've had VIOFO's in my last 3 cars, (2 Ceratos), and no issues.

I had an Autolec fit mine as a cashy cost me $100.

+1 for The Viofo A129 Plus Duo. Got it for 2 more friends and they're happy as well. Always good to have both front and rear than just front only. I fit them myself watching some YT videos and feel it was a pretty good job in hiding the wires, but takes about an hour if you are as clumsy as me.

I originally had the Bluskysea one (recommended here itself) which was sufficient, but it had an annoying issue of the date getting reset to 2015 if the car is not used for a couple of days. So the files were all over the place.

    • Thank you very much - I did see this deal before posting, but yeah it's good to know that there is some good experiences with it.
      I will probably purchase this.

    • Sorry, to bother you again - when I am on the deal it mentions that I should be purchasing "another cable", do you know what that cable is for and where I can source one or if it's required?

I get the feeling it's related to when the car is off and it records when parked - did you have this on your previous cars?

      • Usually you'd just plug it into your cig lighter/accessory port.

It's only required if you want parking mode and not have a flat battery. https://www.viofo.com.au/product/viofo-parking-hardwire-kit-…

Or Amazon or a lot of places…ie usually the place that sells the dashcam sells the hardwire kit also.

      • My VIOFOs in past purchases came with all the required cables including the parking mode cable which appear not to be included with this Amazon deal.

To use parking mode, it is better to buy VIOFO HK3 hardwire cable separately.

The Viofo A129 Plus Duo is a really good option at your price point.

  • You'll need fuse taps and the hardwire kit if you want parking mode or for it to be connected to the car battery.

Auto electrician should be able to provide the fuse taps at least.

  • Viofo range is good. Avoid Xiaomi 70mai products, the price is cheap but so is the picture quality.
