I adore the fake brand names at Aldi. Honestly a highlight of every visit, seeing what they think they can get away with.

    • +3

these aren't bad for 80 cents a pop, it aint no redbull or V but its pretty close

      • +10

It might be closer to RedBull than you think. It is made in Austria probably by Rauch, the same company that bottles RedBull.

        • +2

          Made in Australia

          • @yuisakas: What's made in Australia? The Aldi drink?

          • +1

@yuisakas: Double checked. All Flying Power sortiment available in my nearest ALDI is made in AUSTRIA, not Australia. So, my assumption stands: the manufacturer might be Rauch, one of the Red Bull bottlers.

      • +5

The red one tastes a lot like redbull, and the green one (guarna) tastes a lot like green v lol

        • The green one does not taste a lot like green V. I mean, it's kind of there, but I wouldn't say a lot like it at all. I drink both quite often. The tropical yellow one isn't bad as well, but it's a little sweeter than the green. Don't like red bull so I don't buy the red version.

          • +2

@Munki: It's made in the same factories. The green is V and red is Redbull.

            • @pformag: It's the equivalent to. V is made in New Zealand.

          • @Munki: I think the 99% sugar free guarana one tastes a lot like the sugar free V.

    • +3

will this save me money on plane tickets?

    • +20

I'm just disappointed they didn't name their Gaytime ice cream knockoff as Happy Hour.

      • +24

        Or Glory Pole

      • +4

Their Gaytime equivalent isn't very nice, the outer coating is soggy and tastes kinda funky. One of the instances where the fake/Aldi version is actually noticeably worse than the original.

        • +1

Also, their Cheezels knockoff is way too salty.

        • their summertimes suck yup i still prefer gaytimes by a mile

    • Fake brand names?!?

      • Yeah, they have knockoff versions of hundreds of products, and the knockoffs usually have names that cheekily clone the original's name.

  • +1

But Red ball actually gives you wings.

    • +16

I'd hate to know what blue ball gives you

      • +3

        A lot of pain.

        • +2

          And stains.

          • @Jazza2400: Guarantee you're not falling asleep tho.

    • Don't know if Red ball gives you wings though

  • +3

V has become so expensive even when on sale so i tried the green can and it actually tastes like V so good deal for 79c!

    • It was $5 for 4 at Woolies last week. Stocked up, but these certainly will suffice if V isn't on sale.

  • -5

No deal, tastes like balls and stocked up on half price V's last week.

    • +2

It is a deal, that’s your own personal preference and V’s are a different product.

      • It is a deal

        That's your personal opinion.

      • +1

Yeah, some of us like the taste of balls.

    • +1

it's literally V in the green can.

      • No, it literally is not. They don't even taste the same.

  • I quite enjoy these! Thanks for the heads up.

  • +1

seventy nine pesos a pop, it's a great drop for the price — these are made in AUSTRIA not AUSTRALIA from memory?

    • Made in Australia, says on the linked webpage

      • +1

Austria on the back of can

        • You're right, my can says Austria too. Pretty misleading info from the website

  • Isn’t this their normal price? I prefer the Coles one for 30c more. Sure it’s more expensive but it tastes better.

  • +2

    These are pretty worth it.

The sugar free ones are great.

  • +5

Some of Aldi’s biscuits are re-packaged name brand (Griffins) biscuits from New Zealand, which are top quality! As an expat Kiwi, I go there just for them sometimes!

  • I always wanted to try this. Quick question to folks here, do you consume this on a regular basis?
It it okay to consume this everyday. The only drink I have in a day is a single cappuccino coffee in the morning apart from my normal water intake, diet and protein shake in evening.
Lately I have been low on energy after half a day of work. It it okay to include this as my midday drink? (Everyday)
I always said no to my colleagues who would offer me this drink and tried to keep my coffee / sugar consumption at a minimum. I am 33 year old male.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated

    • +2

Look to be honest I don't think these drinks are healthy. I don't really want to be intaking all these chemicals.

What is your normal diet like? Are you getting enough nutrients/vitamins etc? Maybe you need to look at your whole diet if you're finding yourself low on energy? Had a blood test recently to ensure everything's okay, and also are you getting enough sleep and rest?

I think drinking these drinks every day is a bandaid solution to an underlying problem.

      • I feel my diet is well balanced (mostly home cooked with meat and veggies and fruits and grains), I stay away from junk. Having a blood test done is good idea, just to be sure my health is in order. Sleep has not been the best but its not that bad (around 7 hours a day with only 1.5 hours deep sleep). I guess its mostly work stress and the stress of life which everyone in the world has. My Ram working sluggish after half a day, I thought maybe I am at an age & stage of my life where this happens with all. For now I will stay away from this cancer causing chemicals and sweeteners that may harm me in the long run. Appreciate your response.

      • +1

black coffee is much much better for you than any energy drink

    • +4

You are better off drinking a Berocca or something. These contain a lot of sugar and def not good for your health long run.
I might have the odd can in the car after a late night. I know some people live off it and I don't think that's really good for our health, especially every day.

You know your body, try it and skip the coffee. Might be too much caffeine for your first time and you get the jitters.

Otherwise, drink more coffee, black. Its not as bad lol

      • Will try a Berocca and see if it helps.
If it doesn't will have to try black coffee :)
        Thanks mate

        • +2

Aldi also sell a version of Berocca. The purple one is great, the other flavours taste like insect spray.

          • @Loopholio: Oops, I confused Berocca with the Electrolyte pills Aldi sells. The kind taken when dehydrated. Purple is still the best flavour.

        • +1

          Berocca aren’t great either.

          CAUTION

Phenylketonurics - product contains aspartame (phenylalanine). Contains sulfites, tabletting aids, artificial sweeteners, colour, flavouring.

You’re better off with a balanced diet and maybe a multivitamin if your diet is poor. Berocca is mostly marketing.

          • @OzzyBrak: Thanks for the ingredients list. I dint know they contain Aspartame.
I am already guilty of consuming sweeteners like Sucralose & Acesulfame potassium from my protein shake(ON).
Aspartame is much more dangerous sweetener.

There have been cases in which sufferers of birth defects, brain cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis and seizures have attributed their condition to aspartame consumption. These claims are anecdotal and not based on scientific evidence.

            Source

    • Everyone is different, but I notice something is a bit off with my heart if I have one or two a week.

      • one or two a week and you notice soemthing? I have 2 500ml cans a day. Yes I notice it pretty good but I have low will power and can't help myself.

        • Crikey! A litre a day can't be good long term!

  • +5

just be careful with these they do have carbon dioxide in them that's why i stopped drinking them

    • +2

they do have carbon dioxide in them

lol, that's probably the most benign constituent in these cans 😅

      • I'm actually surprised it actually says it on the cans in the ingredients

    • +2

Every time a Flying Power is opened, Greta sheds a tear.

    • Plant food hey? Hmmmm….

  • Cancer in a can

    • Just because it's cheaper than Red Bull? Just like any energy drink, if you limit your consumption of these and make sure you only occasionally drink them, you definitely won't be getting cancer.

      • +1

Not at all. Red Bull is just a more expensive poison.

        • well aspartame isn't any better that are in sugar free stuff

    • I assume you don't drink alcohol then.

  • No added preservatives ? Then how is it preserved?

    • Pure sugar baby.

    • +3

      By canning. No preservatives required.

    • These are likely high in salt. Salt works as a preservative. As Cluster said, canning does a fantastic job of preserving.

  • +2

I've been having this every now and then for the last few years.

I can confirm, I'm able to fly for approximately 3 seconds per drink.

    • +1

      You can get five seconds.
      Never skip wing day.

      • +1

Unfortunately I only have my wings for those 3 seconds when I have this energy drink, so I think you'll understand I'm a bit pressed for time…

  • +1

I like all the sugar free ones.

They're pretty decent for the price, even when they're 99c

  • so this gives you wings too?

    • +1

      Bat wings

      • More like bingo wings

  • I'm a fan of the mango flavour. Doesn't seem to be included, maybe a different product

  • I normally have a sugar free one. keeps me awake and is cheaper than a cup of coffee… oh uni life
