    "Guess I'll lay eggs…"

    • +1

Yeah, that ruined the base game for me - the added bonus scoring tiles in the European and Oceania expansion definitely helped change it up (for the better IMO)

      • +1

I don't mind too much, but I figured to try house-ruling it: First ten eggs are worth 1 point each and thereafter 1 point for every 2 eggs. Seemed to work ok on the couple of games I tried it.

That $49 deal was great. There was stock, people just had to wait to get into the Kmart website.

One word of warning though for people who appreciate the condition of their board gaming boxes - don’t buy from Amazon. Every single one of my board games, delivered from Amazon, have been damaged. Sometimes they even deliver the game in a plastic bag.

    • +11

Interesting! I’ve had probably 15+ board games ordered from Amazon and never had an issue!

      • +5

        What? Experiences vary?!

        • Not sure what this comment contributes?

      • +2

My 8+ board games have no problem from them too.

    • Or venture into the more remote parts of Australia to find a store with stock weeks later. Found a couple at a Kmart outside a typical metro area. Every store must of got roughly the same allocation regardless of the areas.

    • I just pricematched at JB. They had 5% off storewide and I had a gift card I got 15% off. I was a little chuffed though still haven't got around to playing it.
As for amazon I have bout 10+games from them and never an issue. Only store I had a problem with was gamesmen. They even packages a damaged box as the delivery box was in perfect condition.

    • I bought the "Arkham Horror" card game from Amazon - got the box but inside was the "Android Netrunner" cards with some Arkham Horror game pieces.

    • Ive had damaged games come from amazon, have always been able to refund them or get a good discount. They tried scamming me with "we only use this courrier" to return when I asked for an auspost label. I countered with "sure, I'll also attach an invoice for the gas and my usual hourly rate for the 2 hour trip according to google maps" which quickly prompted an auspost label "that they don't use".

Get oceania, adds birds you know/identify with, and removes dead rounds waiting for good food.

    It's a beautiful f**cking box

    Sorry, where’s the deal?
Looks like plenty got the deal at $49 from Kmart?

    • What about those who didn't?

      • -5

So cause they missed out, we are posting substantially higher “deals”? Or all time lows for Amazon?

Okay then. Great deal for them.

  • Considering the expansions, but for the people who have them, how do you store everything?

    • +1

      In a cupboard

    • I have it all stored in the base box, with a few compromises; 1 card tray, 1 set of boards (I only use the Oceania ones), and a small stack of cards don't fit in the single card tray. I even have the speckled eggs in there as well.
The next expansion has the option of shipping in the equivalent of the Scythe Legendary box (according to Jamey on BGG)

Damn. I saw people online have made custom cases and storage units for the game specifically to accommodate the expansions, but a lot of the time they're more than the (already expensive) game itself. Would love to experience the expansions, but it honestly just seems stressful figuring out how to deal with the space.

        • +1

It's not too bad, If you have Base + Oceania the bird cards all fit in the same card tray and the new food and eggs fit nicely there too. Some custom stuff is needed (looking at you Jaws of the Lion) but Wingspan + Oceania fits nicely in original box with no bulge.

I reckon most of the after market stuff is just to show off anyway.

          • @Nalar: So far I haven't need to make (or buy) an insert for Wingspan + both expansions (all 3 if you include that I had to buy the swift start separately, but it's like 16 cards and a booklet). Admittedly it would probably half setup and tear down time, and I will probably grab one when the bigger box comes out.

With regards to aftermarket stuff; it's 100% not required, but if I enjoy a game, I try and make it more thematic. It makes it more enjoyable for me.

TBH, I'm looking at my Wingspan box now wondering if I take out 2 of the player boards to free up more space - I've played at 4 and 5 players only once each, and it was painfully long.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't mean to direct my reply at you, just in general to the thread - not sure how to remove it.

  • Oceania expansion $30 from Gamerholic, not bad if you want to collect from Hurstville NSW (instead of post)

    • +1

Yeah Gamerholic has a bad rep around here, unless you can walk into their place and inspect the item I wouldn't trust them at all.

      • Yeah, even Board Game Oracle has a warning under Gamerholic as a retailer. I don't know how that works though. Couldn't find any info as to how a store would end up with a warning associated with them.

        • Gotta go looking thru Facebook groups.

Basically it's a combination of Product never showing up and they not refunding or making it super hard to refund or product arriving damaged inside shipping box which is undamaged.

There's a bunch of deals on here from them, check the comments, there's OzB members who never received their goods or refunds.

Personally I accidently bought from them on catch and they sold me an out of stock product and just refunded without any communication.

          • @Nalar: I understand the negative comments as I've seen lots of them on here. I meant how does GBO flag it? I haven't noticed any feedback or ratings system.

            • @ozbs25: You can email the dev to provide feedback. I'm guessing he either received enough negative feedback about them, or came to the conclusion through the means mentioned above.

              • @shortielah: For what its worth, I've ordered and picked up from them a couple times without issues.

                • @Gianl3: I've also ordered from them several times (delivered) and have never had an issue with them.

                • +1

@Gianl3: I think you're the outlier, I've ordered from them 5 times and received the shipment once. The last time was from ebay and I didn't even look at the seller, and awaited the inevitable 'sorry, this is out of stock, here's an immediate refund' message.

  • Is the switch version good?

    • I've been playing it on Steam, which should more or less be identical. It's gorgeous. Having never played the board game, I can't really compare but it certainly removes all the need for setting up which I hear can be quite tedious.

Also they have bird sounds for every card which really adds to the experience.

I play it locally with my girlfriend and online with friends. Very chill game. Highly recommend.

      • +1

I have the Switch version and second this opinion.

When it's just one or two of us playing, it saves setting up the full board game. Although, learning the game is much easier (imo) with the swift start pack on an actual board. The Switch version's layout is daunting and confusing at first and even now I play the switch version in the simulated board game style UI. So I miss the pretty animations.

        • That is true, the tutorial wasn't great IMO - you're better just learning as you play with someone. The mechanics don't seem intuitive at first but you pick it up fairly quickly by playing.
