Good Recommendations for a Large Washing Machine and Dryer 2 in 1

I have a great old top load washing machine that works great but with the weather being so rainy and wet lately I am considering trying a dryer and washing machine combo for a change but it has to be a 2 in 1 as there is no space for a separate washing machine and separate dryer machine the laundry is very space limited unfortunately.

What's everyone's thoughts on these machines do they work well and function ok.

I will probably be looking at a really large unit minimum size 7.5kg.

What's a good estimate on power usage if I do say 6 full loads a week every week for a year.

  • Alternative is, if you have space in your laundry (or another enclosed room) to hang all the washing, use a dehumidifier to dry the clothes.

    • What would hypothetically use less energy a dehumidifier or dryer.. I could repurpose an unused room for this but the room is huge

  • Look forward to your deal post for the new book 101 OzB recommended buys…

    • Lol.. I wouldn't buy it they are all trash lol

Not even worth free just take up storage space

There's not even room to stack them?

I looked into them a few years back, when in a small apartment. A lot of tradeoffs involved, they're larger than either stand alone machine, quality wasn't there (although it has apparently improved a lot lately, but I'd go for the longest warranty and not Samsung) and be prepared for big power bills because they're usually not very efficient. Two in ones with heat pump dryers generally cost a small fortune.

All of them can wash ok, pay attention to the reviews talking about the dryer. That's the important bit.

    • Mostly interested in which types are the most efficient or most effective or most safest.

Good Recommendations for a Large Washing Machine and Dryer 2 in 1

There are none…. its as simple as that!

Washers need a differnt shaped drum for water saving, dryers need a large massive drum for drying. Combining the two and you get just a horrid outcome all round.

I will probably be looking at a really large unit minimum size 7.5kg.

The wash/dry cycle is normally only 3-4kgs and take 6-7 hours regardless of the 'size'. Read the manual!

    • So is it like using Michael Jordan for golf and Tiger Woods for basketball?

A terrible combo better at just them doing their specialised things.

      • Basically, just poor all round. I've used a couple while on holidays, nope wouldn't waste me money on them.

you'll find that all of the combo one have drying capacity of half washing capacity, and you'll end up with using only half of its washing capacity, so it becomes moot point. Just get a front load and a heat pump stacking on top, the 55kg heat pump can be stacked on all front loader as it doesn't vibrate that much.

    • I guess I could just add a dryer somewhere in the house doesn't have to be in the laundry specifically since we already have a good sizeable yet old top loader washer.

Would it be safe to put the dryer on carpet surface.

      • If you get a heat pump or condenser dryer, then yeah they can go anywhere really. No real 'hot wet air' issues from them.

  • I lean towards a combo being a great idea, but one that has compromises. It won’t wash as well and won’t dry as well as individual machines. This would probably most likely end up with more energy/water consumption to get the same output as individual machines.

Then, you need to consider that if something goes wrong, you effectively need to replace both.

  • I hate washer dryier combos they dont wash/dry tyeh same ammount.

Also my understanding heat pumps take age to dry clothes.

I run a LG 7.5kg front load washing machine and stack a 8kg salt dryier having the correct sized drier makes all the difference.

Power wise i have 9.9kw solar but dont think its thats much difference. May make money back but considering you wont be using it all the time is it worth twice the price to save a 50c a wash.

    • I am personally just trying to find something both convenient and a good back up if I have to do a big load and the rain is so strong it's even reaching the under the shade drying area that's all.

But if there is no good 2 in 1 alternative out there it's fine I can just stick to my washing machine and hang it on the line under the shade method for now.

I don't get that UV cleansing but it's a fair trade off to get the clothes dry.

    • Heat pump takes about 2 hours max, energy wise it use 1/3 of the energy, but what it does best is not turning your laundry into a sauna, a condenser dryer can do that but cost wise it's only a $2-300 less than a heat pump so it's no brainer not going for heat pump when it can do both at the same time and never have to worry about your laundry ceiling paint bubbling out.
Cost wise if you have 10kw solar then it's not much of a saving, but for smaller system heat pump does a lot as its peak draw is less than 1000w so you never have to worry about importing from the grid, which will be important in a few year time when demand charge become a thing.
