Looking for Recommendation for New Rig

Hi all,

I am looking to build a new rig after more than 9 years with the current one but I am a bit lost now.

Have been doing some research but can't make up my mind so looking for some idea from the fellow ozbargainers.

I actually have been waiting for a deal for 5600x+MSI b550 Tomahawk but no better deal(or even close deal) than this

Now I am also considering Intel i5-12600kf.

My question is considering the current market price, which platform should I go for "bang for bucks"? I am a casual gamer and use the rig for many other things, and I normally keep the rig for many years, if they dont fail on me.

My 2nd question is which board should I get if go for 12600kf, z690/z690s/z690I?

Thanks in advance.

Definitely go Intel at the moment, much better bang for buck. However I'd also stick with DDR4 because DDR5 costs a lot and doesn't offer any benefits. 12600KF is definitely the bang for buck king at the moment.

What GPU are you looking at getting and what resolution do you game at? My only thought is if you're looking at something high end (i.e. 3080) then a higher CPU to match might be useful, especially if you game at 1080p.

https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/bundle-intel-i5-12600… - this is a pretty good bundle to look at, the audio on the board is very average but for the price it's great (unless you really want a full sized board)

There is the floating processing plant off the NT coast that is finally being scrapped. It can be moved around so it is bit more flexible.

Gamers nexus has a round up of the best Mobos for the intel platform https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEkDVlv1FFg

    but the TLDR is
    * MSI Pro Z690-A DDR4 if you have a higher budget (RRP $320)

    or for sub $300

    • ASUS Prime Z690M-Plus D4 (RRP $269)

Whirlpool has a list of builds. Scroll down to "PC Hardware": https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/

Get a RP4 as it will allow you to play retro games and will not cost very much. I concluded from the requirements given that this would be suitable.
