Some Advice on Buying a Motherboard from Amazon.co.jp (if Even Possible)

Morning. I need to buy a Taichi Z690 and it's pretty expensive here in Australia. The best quote I can find is $899 online (Mwave). Looking coincidentally at the product on amazon.co.jp, I see it for ~Y63K which converts to ~AUD$680 (https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/ASRock-Z690-Motherboard-Compat…).

Can anyone offer advice on how to, if it is even possible, source from amazon in Japan? Presumably warranty issues won't exist but will there be firmware issues and that type of thing, if it is possible? Would Prime obtain? There's a ~$200 difference so might be worth it.
Thanks

but will there be firmware issues and that type of thing, if it is possible?

There is no regional difference in motherboard firmware across countries.

    When checking out:

"We are unable to ship non-digital items from amazon.co.jp to Australian shipping addresses.
Please choose a shipping address that is not in Australia to proceed. Some restrictions may still apply depending on the item."

So you will need to use a parcel forwarding service, which further adds to the cost of obtaining your mobo from overeseas.

Yeah I have to imagine that most of the price difference comes just from the cost of shipping it out here in the first place.

    $828.57 shipped with eBay plus

    ~Y63K which converts to ~AUD$680

Add GST = $748, then add freight + forwarder charges

Agreed. It sounds like a good deal until you add these things.

Also the fact that some forwarders (Buyee is the most popular I think) use their own bs currency converter, that $680 will end up closer to $750 before the extra charges. No option to pay in Yen.

      Buyer definitely beware.

Red hot advice and blazing fast! Thanks to you all.

I was pressed for time when I put this together (Twitter and Telegram) so I'm very sorry that I embarrassed myself by not thinking this through - no excuses.

    It won't happen again.

  • Also as far as I know, Amazon.co.jp no longer ship anything to Australia since the government made it overseas seller's responsibility to collect GST.

  • A friend of mine (who is Japanese) sends stuff to his parents place, and then it’s forwarded to him. The speed at which it’s delivered is crazy.

He can order something from Amazon JP, it gets shipped that day, parents get it and send it over, and it’s at his doorstep in less than a week
