I have this unit, started buzzing my hair around 2019, and has been a good lightweight unit, this particular model also comes with the twig and berries non-nick attachment which I've used without issues.

the larger 18-in-1 kit has 2 additional guards to do easier fades as it has the stepped guards.

Even though the unit claims to not need lubrication, I still buy a 3-in-1 clipper guard spray from shaver shop to lube and sanitise after each use.

The hair clipper attachment does take in some hair into the unit so you will need to brush it out after each use, the twig and berry attachment is decently sealed so it doesn't take in any hair.

Fairly convenient to have both functions on the one unit as I can do both areas in the same session.

If you haven't gone electric to maintain downstairs, this was a game changer for me, do your self a favour.

    • Which attachment is the one you use for the family jewels?

      • +4

Ah yes, It's the 1st attachment on the 2nd row, it has removable nick guard.

  • What is people reviews for cutting hair?

    • I bought this firstly for the below-waist, i have thick-ish straight head hair (asian background) so i also went and bought a nicer Wahl unit thinking the Philips wasn't going to cut it, but haven't had to touch it.

That being said I have a very basic haircut routine so i don't really benefit from good quality guards and haven't needed a stronger motor. The Philips unit being wireless and lithium also makes it light less fatiguing to use.

  • I am looking for a near shave (beard). Do you guys think this is any good? Please advise. I currently have Mi beard trimmer and its not bad.

It's perfect for near shave with the wide attachment (top row, third item).

In fact, I haven't fully shaved in months because of how much I like how close it gets without all the irritation.

Only issue I've found after 3-4 years is that attachment seems to have gummed up and gets caught easily on thick hair, have tried cleaning with alcohol and putting some oil. Maybe the blades are now dull. If anyone knows where to buy one attachment, let me know.

      • Thanks for responding. How close can it go to 0.2 mm?, Sounds good. I am going to order shortly. :)

I don't know exactly but for me it gets pretty close, like I had shaved 1-2 days back. But then again everyone is a little different in growth etc.

@neo: That's right. Mine is on its way. :)

  • I've added to my ever growing trimmer collection. Let's see if this is the one that's right for downstairs.

Overall not bad (have one), but beware that if the battery dies on you while shaving and you plug it into a powerpoint it will just charge, it doesn't work while charging.

    • True of several Philips models, gratefully this has a faster charging battery to counter this issue, and higher capacity than the 5000 series equivalent, keen to see how it performs comparatively.

For anyone interested, I grabbed this case of amazon which made storage easier too, i was just storing it in the cardboard box for the first few months.

  • Great shaver but the foil shaver broke for me and replacement is quite expensive for that tiny piece ($25 shipped). Trimmer and other parts are still good but it's a shame the foil shaver isn't as heavy duty.

I hopped onto a WhatsApp chat with Philips support and they shot me out a new attachment free of charge via express post when I had similar happen

      • Wow thanks for this. Excellent - I'll give it a shot.

    • Thanks for the suggestion @MBix. Unfortunately they just directed me to the same parts site expecting me to fork out $25 for about a cent of plastic glued to aluminium with holes in it .

Perhaps if I'd contacted them as soon as the part broke they would have sent it from free; regardless I'm pretty disappointed as the rest of the kit was good quality. Just a note if you're buying to be careful with the foil shaver part I suppose.

That’s pretty disappointing of them. If it’s still under warranty and you can be bothered I’d make a bit of a fuss. If it’s no longer under warranty then they probably have their butts covered :(

        • +1

Well, it was technically out of warranty but I pushed a bit and the rep kindly spoke to their manager (lol) and they will be sending me a free replacement.

So thank you MBix for helping me solve my shaver woes!

@Deals For Days: Great result! Their customer service is pretty decent for the most part in my experience. Can be a bit tedious but a good result anyway!
