280 Vs 360MM AIO for Intel Core i7-12700K

Guys, I urgently need your suggestion regarding AIO for i12700k

Currently, I have the following options available:

  1. ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 360 RGB - Black
  2. Corsair iCUE H150i Elite CAPELLIX Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060048-WW) RGB Pump + Fans 360mm
  3. Corsair iCUE H115i Elite CAPELLIX Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060047-WW) RGB Pump + Fans 280mm
  4. Lian Li Galahad 360 AIO UNI FAN SL120 Edition Black CPU Cooler

I got phantek p600s case and I will most probably mount the radiator on the top.

Thanks

What's the question? There's an abundance of reviews out there for them.

    • +1

That's why I am confused about which one to get since I have been using a stock air cooler till now. I would be pushing the CPU to its limit most of the time. Can 280mm AIO handle that? Secondly from my search, I found that corsair AIO makes quite a noise when pushed to the limit, unlike ARCTIC.

  • +5

Gamers nexus gave the Liquid Freezer II the award for best noise normalized thermals while the Galahad had the award for "best flat-out thermals", if that helps.

I went with the Liquid Freezer II 240mm because thats what was on sale at the time and I have a compact Fractal Design Meshify C case that could only support 240mm's on the top. I can confirm that it's pretty quiet on my R9 5900x

Same here, got the 360 based on GN’s reviews. Have it in a P500A case with a 5900x. Can’t get all the radiator screws into the top of the case, I think I’ve got 6 out of 10 but it doesn’t move.

    • Have the Artic 280 with my AMD 3950x CPU and shes close to silent, though decided to get 6x off these Artic P12 fans which can run at almost 0 RPM or fan stop

      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08Y8N5J89/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_9…

Made my setup even more quieter, well dare I say almost silent as 3 of the fans are in the front of my case, other 2x on top and 1x back off case (running at very low RPMs don't even hear them) the 3x in front blowing air into front radiator, I think these help keep the radiator fans at there lowest speed of 200 RPM, even gaming she's still almost silent until a brief episode of higher RPMs till water in radiator is cooled down again

Might try these P14's 140mm (again same 0 RPM and fan stop feature) on the actual radiator as anyway my radiator fans are the non RGB ones, more bling lolz

Get whichever brand you prefer and is within your price range.

Usually the Arctic Liquid Freezer 2 is the best choice due to price and top performance but if you can find the Galahad or EK AIO 360 for the same price or less they are good choices.

I wouldn't go with Corsair unless it's significantly cheaper.

Bear in mind if you are using GPU (generating significant heat eg gaming) it's not ideal to pull GPU heated air through the radiator. You want intake fans pulling from outside the case.

      1. Lian Li Galahad 360 AIO UNI FAN SL120 Edition Black CPU Cooler: 289$
      2. EK AIO 280 Elite D-RGB AIO Liquid CPU Cooler: 222$
      3. Arctic Liquid Freezer 2 360: 205$

I think I am gonna drop the corsair ones. Now I have to choose one of the three above.

        I hope I'm not too late,… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/688089 Enjoy
Sales is over for the 360mm unless I just can't find it though the RGB 420mm is $238
        https://www.pccasegear.com/products/56543/arctic-liquid-free…
Unless you go for the 280mm on special $129, nearly 2, for the price of one 420,. what's that 2x 280= 560mm lolz (though interesting if one could join 2x 280's I wouldn't say it's impossible maybe not practical 👍😊

Thanks, man. I really appreciate that. After shipping the ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 A-RGB cost 174$ from PCCG whereas the price on amazon is 183$. How long does PC case gear take to deliver the cooler coz I am hoping to build my rig by the end of this week. I have all the components except the cooler.

          • +1

@Adi53: It's a normal brick and mortar store like Harvey Norman so you can give them a call and of course they use normal Australian shipping I'm sure they would have option to pay extra for Australia post express shipping

I'm actually thinking of buying another 280mm and join somehow the two together with my same existing 280 (technically makes it a 560, wonder if theyll be any difference), my PC System is a hobby so anything to keep myself entertained lolz

Edit: whoops just noticed you mentioned Amazon (got a link?) well what's Amazon's delivery options usually they can be fast shipping and for the sake of few dollars more yeah, is Amazon's a RGB or aRGB (again got a link?), be careful to with RGB and with what the RGB headers are on your motherboard my Gigabyte board was a headache but I solved it with an adapter, send me your mother brand and model, happy to check it out

            • +1

@Italkdigital: My bad, arctic 280mm from PCCG cost like 147 with Australian post express delivery. Also, what would you suggest 280 or 360mm. Is it worth paying 60$ more for arctic 360mm AIO.

              • +1

@Adi53: I'm sure reading the reviews they were very close in performance (but double check) but if you have the case that can fit it I'd go for the 360mm personally, it's a long term investment and youll kerp it fir your next upgrade, can you fit the 420mm? that's on special for $238, I posted link above and then definitely I'd choose the 420mm, bigger is better lolz

@Adi53: Give me a moment as there's no picture of the other side of the box showing the voltages of the aRGB (Amazon) but going buy the Artic aRGB fans I bought there 5volts (give me a moment I'll double check) the aRGB connector on my fans are (3pin digital aRGB) on a 4pin female connector (missing one pin why its 3pin), my motherboard has the connector but it's 3 pin but easily solved with adapter

                Ok download motherboard manual
https://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/mb/MAGZ690TOMAHAWKW…, page 43 (JRAINBOW1~3: theres 3x connectors you can use and Artic has daisy chain, so ive connected 6 fans on one port of motherboard), looking at board/manual has the right connector plug straight in for digital aRGB and it's correct 5volts header, though that's my Artic fans I can't check the Amazon water cooler forsale but being aRGB most likely right one

Let me check pccasegear site but look at manual you'll see what I mean by a 3pin on a 4pin connector (missing one pin, its so you cant put the connector in the wrong way which i can do on my board as its 3pin)

Nice motherboard didn't realise Gen 5 PCIe was out and on a ddr4 board can I ask how much you paid for it?

Your board also supports RGB which is not addressable, older RGB type (don't get confused with aRGB, they are both different) lol

Edit: the Amazon and Pccasegear state the same model (ACFRE00106A) though I don't see anything stating ready for 1700 Socket like Amazon so I'd call them, yups the fans have the 3 pin (4pin missing the one pin) so good to go for your motherboard 👍😊

                • +2

@Italkdigital: Thanks for finding that information for me. I just placed the order for 360mm ARGB AIO from amazon for 204$. It would probably arrive by next Wednesday I have to wait a bit more but I can live with that. My case supports 420mm AIO in front whereas I would like to mount it on top of the case that is why I decided to go with 360mm AIO.
I have also ordered ARCTIC Intel LGA1700 Upgrade Kit (for Liquid Freezer II Series)

                  https://www.amazon.com.au/ARCTIC-LGA1700-Upgrade-Liquid-Free…

Also, I got the motherboard for 379$ from centre com.

                  • +1

@Adi53: I reckon pccasegear would deliver quicker and with Amazon you have time to cancel (or dare I say let it post, check it out and easily return), id give pccasegear a call at 9am and see what they can do for you, anyway aren't they cheaper even with Australia post express? at $129 plus postage express postage wouldn't be more then $25
                    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/55989/arctic-liquid-free…

Only reason I don't like placing water cooler on top of case as heat rises basically not getting cooler ambient air externally as you would setup in front of case but more so heat within case would pass through radiator, I'd personally go 420mm in front since you case can fit it plus you won't get a good view of led fans/radiator if on top, also the fact its only $239 (I paid $180 for my 280mm and non RGB), my 2 cents anway
Yummy 420,… size does matter lolz, plenty of time to cancel with Amazon
                    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/56543/arctic-liquid-free…

And I got 6x of these fans they can run at nearly 0 RPM, wait till there on special of course there expensive
                    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08Y8N5J89/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_9…
                    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09LR5D2XQ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_T…

Anyway leave with you time to sleep, do post pics of your setup when done, enjoy cheers

                    • @Italkdigital: Read this in description of the 420mm (I'm sure for all sizes) at pccasegear, probably would have to wait so yes etter yes you've already ordered one but doesn't hurt to have a spare since its free or send to my place or send me a copy of your motherboard invoice, I love free stuff lolz

ARCTIC will provide the required mounting kit free of charge to customers who submit proof of purchase of a processor with an LGA 1700 socket

I ended up getting the Artic Liquid Freezer II 280mm version cause of limitations with my case and still was a tight fit height wise, had to bend bottom tray of case fortunately can't see when glass panel is on, not that it was a serious bend

Well all can say these are great water coolers, close to silent when using Windows low performance software, low to medium end performing games etc, highend games even isn't to noisey but I did buy extra Artic 120mm fans that run as low near 0 RPM for my case (might add more 140mm 0 RPM ones on my radiator for push and pull) and they also made a big difference with temps and overall noise

Hose lengths are great so managed to have this in front of case with correct orientation having the houses outlet at bottom orientation (other way around in time creates air but a lot of reviews/sites show wrong orientation), also the problem is if your case is too long in depth you will have issues with having the right orientation as one has to consider the graphics card gets in the way, bloody can't remember my case model as that you can go by in measurements, Thermaltake is the brand (well bug me to find model if you like)

Anyway sounds like you have a case to fit the 360mm version well hope you've measured everything well

Artic 280mm vs 360mm the reviews I read between the two seem close on performance, I've tested thinner/cheaper 280mm radiators they actually do the job but the fans run more constantly and uses cheaper fans (which were noisey), certainly recommend the fans that come with these Artic water coolers, the lowest RPM they run at is 200rpm why they are near silent, I also invested in 6 Artic PWM aRGB fans these can run near 0 RPM, also be careful buying anything with aRGB concerning your RGB headers on your motherboard and the connectors used on the fans, my Gigabyte board was a headache at first till I ordered special adapters

water cooling is more about cooling the volume of water, bigger the volume the longer it will cool the cpu once fans stop while air cooling is direct cooling

Certainly look at the volume of each radiator when comparing each brand, well certainly mine the Artic 280mm is a very thick radiator over my previous cheaper 280mm radiator and the Artic Liquid Freezer II have that small fan on cpu water block (don't know if it's there for just looks or it actually makes a difference lol)

I personally recommend Artic Liquid Freezer II Water Coolers 👍😁

Edit: oh my cpu is an AMD 3950x 16 Cores 32 threads cpu

Special still going for either 280mm ($129) or 360mm ($149) so this might help you decide which brand to get and there both RGB certainly the 360mm is a great deal 😉 😁😜🤑

I got the arctic liquid freezer II. Yet to install but that brand's efficacy and the glowing reviews did me in. I will report back in few days once I install it.

    I have a Ryzen 3700x CPU.

    • Which size did you get my older 2700 ran great with the 280mm version and 3700 are more efficient with less heat

      • +1

360mm mate. I did consider the 280mm but ended up getting the 360mm. Same deal which u mentioned and price difference was only $20.

        • No Brainer lol,.. it's one if those PC parts you'd keep for a very long time and they are so well built now, honestly if my case had the space well if my case had the space on my small desk, I would've went bigger on case and got the 420mm one, might have to research if there are very tall, narrow shorter depth cases

Don't know abouts yours but I'm sure all the same, but the fans are wrong way around on radiator, pushing air down into radiator, well actually right way around for top case setup but wrong way around like for mine with front case setup, problem is the back of the fans don't look good as the front of the fans but hard to see once glass panel is on, mine are the non RGB fans maybe the RGB ones look great on both sides

  • +1

Sort of related to this post but on the cpu side not graphics card, but we are all here about cooling,…

Bought few of these super thin 120mm fans through Amazon for $15 free postage with Prime (prices gone up slightly)
    SilverStone Technology SST-FN124B pc fans
    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07R26HGV4/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_C…

Using fan to cool back of my motherboard/3950x cpu well there is enough clearance to fit between case side panel and too back of cpu/mb panel, which depth measures about 20mm in clearance

They do push a small reasonable amount of air especially at close proximity to fan, gonna see if there's a way to push a 12v fan further in speeds (increasevoltages without killing fan), also these are 3pin connector fans with no PWM control but are fairly silent at set full speed

Haven't yet checked if it makes any difference in temps on cpu (with hardware monitor app), well if cooling backside of cpu would make any difference in the first place, if anything I'd say few degrees at most hopefully maybe more, will test tonight 👍🤑
