Medjool Dates 5kg Gift Box $25

Nothing says "I love you mum" as much as a box of Medjool Dates…..

  • I wonder if my local Coles has done the same, they had boxes stacked about 8 high the other day, seemed a bit ambitious

    • Let us know!!!!!!!!!

      Hot dates are best…

    • Eating them "as is" is fine.
I tear them I half and put them on a platter with cheeses, meats, and olives.

    • Am just eating 3 for breakfast 😅

    • -1

I have 2 or 3 with my latte every morning for breakfast.

    • I replace the seed with almonds and eat the dates. These Majdool dates are so yummy

Pretty sure they do this for Ramadan. Never seen it go that low in price before but can confirm carousel Coles price matched without hesitation.

    • Great info cheers.

I tried to price match and was told they don't price match - each coles has its own specials

  • Price matching is bit tricky with Coles because it’s mostly dependent on stock levels from store to store.

  • Each dried date contains 4 teaspoons of sugar. Don’t over eat them lol. Then again each hot cross bun contains 10 teaspoons of sugar. For comparison one normal can of coke contains 10 teaspoons of sugar.

    • A hot cross bun has approx. 16 grams of sugar which is the same amount as a dried date.

      • 1 teaspoon of sugar is 4g of carbohydrates. The trap is all carbohydrates are chains of sugars. The moment you put it in your mouth is breaks down into sugars. To know the real sugar content, don’t look at the sugar. Look at the total carbohydrates and divide by 4. The labels hide the sugar content by listing them separately.
For example 2 wheatbix biscuits contain 20g of carbohydrates that is equivalent to 5 teaspoons of sugar. But they list sugars as only 0.9g. They don’t take into account what happens when you put it in your mouth and enzymes break down the carbs into sugars.

  • Cultural question.. are these like the Ramadan equivalent of a barley sugar during the 40 hour famine? Or are you meant to way until after sundown?

    • Dates are traditionally consumed a lot more in Ramadan than other months. They are a calorie and nutrient powerhouse so they help a lot if you have a few in the morning.

They didn't drop the price, at least in QLD this Ramadan and the quality was a bit iffy as well. So maybe sales were lower than expected, now they might be trying to clear stock.

    • Basically just a sugar hit. Common snack to eat at sundown when breaking your fast. Gives you enough energy for prayers.

Or are you meant to way until after sundown?

I assume you mean wait. Fasting Muslims don't eat or drink anything while the sun is out during Ramadan, so they'll eat before sunrise, and then eat again after sunset. The date is just a common food that is eaten as part of those meals (and not eaten during fasting).

      • sorry, that was an annoying typo because I did mean "wait".

I guess I did know the answer and wanted to make my 40 hour famine gag too, which was always perplexing to me how you're not eating for 40 hours but you're fine to have as many barley sugars as you want.

Make some sticky date pudding and butterscotch sauce.

This is the only sort of date I can get. How sad :/

  • They are good for the skin. Keeps acne away :-)

  • They come with a use by date…

    • Use by dates for dates….(pun not intended) is negligible..

  • Would Coles in NSW price match?

    • Tried, no luck

    • Not mandatory.

  • The taste is amazing TBH

  • Expired .. all gone

  • Wow! Great price!

    This deal was clearly outdated…

FYI that midland store also said no. Should have gone to carousel.
