[Solved] Amex Travel Online - Can We Get The Invoice of Full Price When Using The Travel Credit?

Hi all,

I booked a hotel using the travel credit on the Amex Travel Online just now. I only received a reservation email which shows the $400 credit as discount, and the amount of PAYMENT RECEIVED.

I just wonder it is not a valid receipt. May I ask if anyone who booked before could get the offical receipt/invoice later? Which shows the original amount instead of paid amount.

Chatted with the customer service. They sent me the formal invoice. The invoice contains everything I need.

    The amount you paid is the total minus the credit.
    So that is what any invoice will reflect.
    Assume you are getting the money paid back from somewhere and want to pocket the $400
    I’ve never gotten an invoice that doesn’t show the credit as anything other than a discount.

      The tax is charged based on the full amount, I think the invoice should also include the full amount as well. Did you receive a formal invoice before? Which clearly lists total amount, tax, discount, ABN, etc.

    You can try contacting the hotel directly for an invoice/asking at check out (will probably have more luck if it's a smaller, non-chain hotel), though note that an invoice obtained this way may not match the amount you paid - some of them may show the full amount, some may show a lower amount, and some may be itemised with charges/commissions/payment amounts that won't look familiar to you - but at a high level it does get around the credit showing as a discount problem.
