Dell Inspiron 5510 Laptop - Is This a Good Buy? (Budget $1200)

Hi All,

I was looking to purchase a laptop, after approximately 8 years, and was wondering if this Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop is a good buy?

My budget was between $1000 - $1200 however wiling to pay extra if this is worth it.

Any other recommendations are appreciated :)

If you are happy with a 13" and won't need a full TB of storage, I'd stretch for an XPS. Build quality, and the screen is worth the reduction of the two things I noted. They have a 500nit display whereas the Inspiron is only 300 nits I believe (possibly even 250 nits).

Otherwise, if it's just for inside use and limited travel it will be perfectly fine.

What's your usage look like? Might want to consider Intel 12th gen laptops if you require better performance/longevity - if you're not fussed, you could probably find a Lenovo with similar specs for cheaper.

Other than the OS is crappy, no touchscreen, the Macbook M1 is extremely powerful.
    The battery life is great.
I use it mainly for music, but I am lucky I also have a dual boot Desktop that I use for otherthings, though I am using the Mac more these days.
Bare in mind it only has 2 xUSBC ports, you will need to buy a USB hub, preferably with USB Power passing through.

Yeah look, if you aren’t that fussed I’d also put MacBook in the ring. The Air is cheap, powerful and has great speaker quality, where most other laptops do not.

      • Admittedly I do have the Pro, as I was looking at making use of the Touchbar. Yes the speaker quality is quite good.

Check the dell outlet store. You can likely get the same laptop or an XPS for a much cheaper price. Good as new and with the same warranty.

  • i just bought XPS13 i7 16gb ram 512gb, 25% sales at the moment with 5% rewards coupon credited in 20 days of purchase.

not sure if you are eligible, but student and employees discount is another 7% off, and if you use rewards companies like Shopback or Cashrewards you get 5% cashback in like 90days.

My net factoring all that is $1375, although have to wait for the cashbacks and coupon isn't cash useful for what i intend to buy.

I had a chat to sales assistant, they said the EOFY deal will be starting on 2nd week of May. Dell won't price guarantee for seasonal sales like EOFY, but if you have a credit card they'll provide price guarantees on discounts within x number of days of purchase
