I Am in The Market for a New Jayco Journey Outback 19ft. How to Get a Good Deal?

Hi,
I am try to get a good deal on a Jayco Journey outback caravan but most of the dealers are giving me a fixed price with almost no wiggle space. The wait period is about 12 months and the price is going up by 5-8% as well.
Has anyone recently got a good deal from Jayco? How do I go about it?
Thanks in advance!
P.s. I am located at Melbourne

The wait period is about 12 months

Maybe consider what's the incentive to give you a good deal if it's selling as-is.

Wait about 2 years if you can. They are the first thing a family will sell when they can't meet their mortgage repayments.

I’m planning to live in one when i cant afford my mortgage

  • Caravan and Camping show is on in Sydney at the moment. Maybe there are some (online) deals associated with that. In the past 20 years a mate has bought 3 vans at much better prices via the caravan show.

    • In past years those sellers at the camping shows had stock available or coming soon to sell so had an incentive to offer deals/promotions.

With pretty much no stock, 12 mth wait times…just like cars, there's very minimal bargaining power on the buyer side currently

Have you owned a caravan before?

If not, I'd recommend starting with a older 2nd hand one first. The new ones have equally problems and warranties are pain to get sorted.

    There is a 2018/2019 for $66,000:

    2014 for $36k:

If you go for a new one, you may get one in a year, but more likely the wait is longer than that.

Why I would recommend a cheaper 2nd hand one for someone who never owned a caravan before? You may like it for a year or so but then lose interest. If you do and are thinking of selling you will lose quite a bit. A well taken cared of 2nd hand caravan is equally as good as a new one with less than half of the price and you can get it now instead of waiting.

Also, make sure you choose the right one don't choose the one that's on your car's towing limits. You still need to count for the water weight, passengers and other cargo you carry with you :)

I used to own a caravan but it was taken away by a hailstorm. Currently I just camp with my tent for a change and few years later might go for a small used motorhome or I might convert a van to a motorhome myself.

I agree with going used… you can save a fortune, and have it there and then…. Enjoy it for next 12 mths while people sit in a queue waiting.

But they are selling fast, sold my camper same day I put the ad up

Even used prices are silly. It’s ridiculous how much they don’t depreciate.

Or rent one first to make sure this is what you're after. Who wants to splash some major cashola then find out it's not for them?

You are not going to get a ‘good deal’ when they are running at maximum capacity and there is still a 12month backlog of orders.

Think about it, when you’ve got more work than you can handle why would you offer a discount to get more business?

Used prices are still rising the covid wave. It may be settling a little, but not that long ago it wasn’t uncommon to price a 3-4yo van the only a few $k less than RRP of a new one.
