[Help] Mobile Myki for Overseas Travellers

Hi, I will be visiting Melbourne for 2-3 days in a couple of weeks, and can't figure out how to get mobile myki since I am not based in Australia. Any tips for those travelling into Melbourne from other countries? I do have Google pay and an Android phone with NFC capability, but my account isnt set to Australia.

Thanks!

  • if you are only staying for 2-3 days, just get a physical myki in any station

    • $7 for a myki though unlike mobile myki.

If you have Android, get the app version, no need to buy the card.

Google : myki Android follow the first link

  • Isn't it just downloading an App?
You may have an issue if you want to get a refund at the end of your trip, if you used an international Mastercard/Visa payment card.

I’m an international visitor, can I use Mobile myki?
Yes. If you have a Mastercard or VISA card you can get and top up a Mobile myki.

Did you look at the website (after searching for mobile myki)?

    Open Google Pay
Go down to Add A Card
    Tap Public Transport
    Search Melbourne at the top
Select myki Money and tap Continue
Should be able to choose the amount you want to add (max $50) and finish setting up your mobile myki

If you're only here for max three days, just put $10 each time.

  • Guys the app isn't available to non-Australian accounts on the app store that's what OP is saying.

    • You don't need the app? Just use Google Pay and follow my steps.

      • My Google pay, which is based in another country, doesn't have the option of 'public transport'. The option seems to be only available to Australian Google pay accounts.
Yes, I have read through the myki website, but found no solution for short term visitors. Changing the country of my Google account isn't an option either as the Google pay site says you must wait 12 months before you can change your Play country again. Was wondering if anyone could offer a solution for this…

        • Then you'll just have to buy a myki as previously suggested.

And it's not just Australian accounts that have public transport. There's a whole bunch of American cities in the list.

I need geo-restricted apps from several different countries, so I just create another Google account, e.g., [email protected], for the country I need the app from. Then, after getting the app, I sign back into Google Play with my primary credentials.

Perhaps not the most elegant way — and perhaps not addressing a solution to your problem — but this works for me

        • You probably need other country account login, not necessary Australian because I can see a whole list of cities around the world on my google pay.

          • @lgacb08: Which country are you logged in as? You are able to link your myki using a non-australian account?
