How Do Xbox One Pre Owned Games Work from EB Games and eBay?

Any Xbox one knowledgeable users in here I have a question on how preowned works in the Xbox one community.

Looking to get a cheap copy of overwatch for a friend but he plays on Xbox one I'm a PC mostly player so I don't know how other platforms and consoles work.

Here is the EB Games listing

And here is an eBay listing

So if he currently doesn't own overwatch on Xbox one only a trial from 2 years ago would any or both of these items work for him to play overwatch on his Xbox one?

Cheers thanks

Buy game. Put disk in xbox. Play game.

Pretty much the same way games have worked on consoles for a good few decades now…

edit: Since it's Overwatch, they'll need a Battle.net account and Competitive doesn't work cross platform IIRC, there's separate console and PC groupings. But all other game modes work.

Yeah, OP. It isn't complicated. You may be thinking so because of the issues when Xbox One was first announced. But they backtracked on that pretty quickly.

He will need Xbox Live to play online though.

Just making sure preowned/used for xbox one games is reusable because unlike some pc games like steam or origin games it is single use so re-usability is not achievable aka game is locked to first activated account for life so you cannot resell some pc games unless collectors want the case or cover or manual or whatever.

EB wouldn’t sell them if they couldn’t be reused.

There’s no code like PC games, the disk itself is the verification. Only thing you will probably lose is any DLC or extras mentioned on the cover, as they usually involve a code.

          • @freefall101: Ah fair enough.

Consoles truly are a budget gamers heaven it sounds like but I need to do more research.

Worst thing though is having to buy multiple copies for multiple platforms. I hate that even though free epic game is free it still feels odd having multiple copies from steam, epic, etc stuffing up origin games list.

    • oh nice so its not like steam where if you use the cd key once it sticks to an account and cannot be used again on another account.

For example if you try to enter a steam key on another steam account it will give you a this key has been redeemed message as it is single use.

So Xbox One preowned games are multi use or infinite use?

These are used preowned listings not brand new.

Just checking before I buy one asap.

Thank you all for the great answers.

So to summarise for xbox one games you can re use non new games which is awesome.

Pre owned market so cheap it is almost tempting to switch to console also but I am to used to the mouse and keyboard input.

    • You lose out on all the free Epic games and $15 Epic coupons, Humble Bundles, PC Game Pass, heavily discounted Steam summer sales…

Blizzard games are a bit of an exception where Blizzard tend not to heavily discount games regularly or sell through other platforms, so the used market is the best way to go for them. But regularly getting the PC game new is cheaper than used on console.

If you're the kind of person who buys a game new, completes it in 2 weeks and trades it back in, consoles are great. But it means game makers have an incentive to not run sale prices on console games as often, because it has the follow on effect of flooding the used market too with cheap copies.

I don't fit into that category unfortunately I tend to hold onto games for life mostly.

Only exception to that was World of Warcraft because if I did I would not have touched any other game besides maybe Call of Duty.

Not to mention Amazon Prime Gaming freebies which I think is mostly or solely PC and mobile afaik.

Yeah if free Epic Games, Humble Bundle or Fanatical Bundles existed I think I honestly might have been more tempted to try console but then the next question is Playstation or Xbox.

When I looked at this years ago I think the deal breakers for me personally was something like Killzone, Killer Instinct and Halo (oh and Bloodborne at the time).

I had a lean towards Sony because of nostalgia at the time but now it feels I would lean more towards Xbox just because of game pass.

Not sure what Sony has in regards to game pass.

      • Cheers thanks having a read now.

  • If you buy from their website, there's like a 15% chance it will have its original cover.

Reminds me of my favourite XB1 meme:

    • Oh man I need this for every thing in my life such a good way of filtering decisions and information.

All I thought while reading that is catapult vs trebuchet memes.

There is a free to play game releasing on steam later this year that is battle Royale but just with siege engines I think there are only like 3 siege engines so far but it's pretty funny to think about imho.
