What is the Coles My5 Offer (with FLybuys card) ??

I don't really understand how the COles My5 thing works? are they trying to promote people to buy those items from COles? and what's with so many people receiving 'new' flybuys cards? Do i smell a competition with WOolworths and Everyday rewards here?

You go to the website and nominate 5 items from the range offered (not everything is offered). Whenever you buy those items AND spend $50 or more, you get 10% off those items, even when they are on special. You can only change your items rarely, seem to remember it's once per 6 months or 1 year.

It's yet another overhyped benefit which is designed to make people more likely to go to Coles than Woolies. I seldom spend $30, let alone $50, and usually when Pepsi bricks are on sale. However I nominated that as one of my 5 items, so if they are on sale, I might just grab 5 bricks for $45. I won't drink them any faster, just have a larger stockpile.

    • I think you can't change your selection at all… and the promotion expires 31.10.2012… so Coles has an opportunity to review if they want to keep it going or to do away with it then.

    • Yeah, when you pick your 5 it gives you warnings that it can't be changed. You are locked in. Can confirm it works, I got 10% off the item I picked. The discount shows right at the bottom of your receipt after all the items you've bought.

    • Thanks for the links. I've recently caved and got a card and done the "My 5" thing. I never expect to get anything from them in terms of points and rewards - I figure it could save me maybe $5 from my weekly shop at the most, but I'm going to see what I can get anyway.

Well, when I received my recent Coles MC statement I discovered that one benefit is mostly gone. I used to be able to spend $30 on the card and a month later get a voucher for 4c to tack onto a 4c discount from a docket to make 8c off fuel. This was nice because I was getting 8c for $30 spend, albeit delayed.

It doesn't work that way now. You have to accumulate 500 flybuy points, then you can swipe your flybuy card when you buy $30 to get a docket for a combined 8c. In short, you have to spend more to get that extra 4c.

I used to have a slight preference for Coles because of this extra 4c. Not any more. FU Coles, I'll just go to the supermarket that has the $10 Pepsi bricks regardless. And that includes IGA who had this bargain last week.
