Any Mechanic Suggestion for Sydney Sutherland Shire?

Hi, I went to a local repair shop today since my old mechanic has left business. So I need to find a new one.

Now, the shop that I have been charged me $220 for a oil and filter change!

He also mentioned I need a few other things to be done which includes:

Shock absorber change (rear) ($180 each)
Steering pump replacement ($380)

Totalling 180*2 + $380 + $202.50 (labour) + $270 (labour) = $1212.50

Wondering is this typical or I am just being ripped off.

Thanks

PS those prices do not seems unreasonable.

    • Is Bob still there?
I was apprenticed there for a few months.

  • If the 2 jobs you were quoted for actually need doing OP it's not excessive but not cheap either.

Get a quote elsewhere and compare.

Without any actual details, who knows? Is it a one year old Yaris with 5000kms on it? Or is it a vk commodore with 640,000km?

  • 220 is just for an oil and filter change, really?

    Speak with Jason.

  • Why do they need changing? Noisy, leaking oil?

  • Hi OP
I'm in the same boat. The last time the guy from the petrol station on The Boulevarde changed the oil and rotated the tyres for about $220, I started to look for someone more reasonable. He also quoted me about $400 for the 60K logbook service on my other car.
I'm going to try this mobile mechanic this week who has good reviews on Google - Miranda mechanic in Meldrum Ave
I can let you know how I go, if you want to know PM me

    Cheap for a Rolls Royce.

    Average for a mystery car.

  • If you needed a mobile mechanic, these guys are pretty good.

  • Used to live in Clubb crescent Miranda and always took the brides Mazda bubble to RW King in Penprase Lane which is a service lane runs behind the rsl from memory.
Ma and Pa business been going for ever, and seem to have a loyal local customer base and fair pricing.
