eBay Plus - Problems with Cancelling

First post on here, hopefully I'm doing it right.

I signed up for eBay Plus a month ago in order to get the trial month and then cancel before the first charge. For the life of me I could not find out where to cancel and basically gave up, then I was charged $5 and thought I would try again. After researching for a couple of hours it literally seemed impossible to cancel through the eBay website. The FAQS section suggested a link that went nowhere. There are forums online with hundreds of people with the same problem.

I looked and looked, and ended up having to call them. I explained my issue and the website issue, I was transferred 4 times, every time I explained the scenario, the website issue, and each time I was barely answered with anything but, "ohh that's interesting, I'll transfer you.".

Finally, I got a customer rep that was actually concerned, he finally says you can't cancel on the website, you need to call and cancel your whole member account for it to be actioned.

I wrote a complaint through ACCC for misleading customers.

Has anyone else had any problems regarding this matter?

    Membership cancellation
2.1. You may cancel your eBay Plus membership at any time by selecting “Manage membership” on your eBay Plus membership page and then selecting the “Cancel” option in the drop-down menu.

ohhh i have tried this, have you tried it? This is the page that brings you the ebay plus page where you can "join only" there is no drop down menu.

I've had the same issue some weeks ago, and as you mentioned it's impossible to cancel your eBay plus membership by following the eBay guidelines.
What I did was uninstal eBay from my device and was then able to cancel my membership. Hope this helps.

Are you logged into your account…you'll see a join page if you're not already signed up.

Also wouldn't be able to cancel without being signed in …

    • yea i was logged in, it was so strange, the forums made me think it was the same for everyone, but clearly, i am the only one with this issue….

Mine was expiring today, so that may be a factor.

I took up the same offer, I can't remember where you need to cancel but you need to jump through a through hoops of multiple links just to get it done, it's such a bait and switch, I'll never use it again, I deleted my account (takes 30 days too!) and I'll go back to guest check out.

Well I'm glad some one can relate

I had no problem at all. I can't understand your issue and I can only assume it's an age vs technology thing.

      Lol I don't think so I'm 29 😂

      • Ah, right.
In that case I'll upload a tutorial to Instagram.

YOu realise that if you choose to cancel, they'll offer you a $30 voucher to stay?

Effectively you get EBay Plus for only $20 for the year?

IMO that actually makes it worthwhile, $50 doesnt quite cut it.

  • From memory there are 2 places you need to go to cancel. One is ebay, 2nd is PayPal to cancel the direct debit

I remember it was extremely difficult to cancel my own a few months back. Unable to cancel on mobile, had to use desktop. It was seriously unintuitive to find a reasonable place in the account to cancel.

As a kick in the teeth, ebay took payment despite signing up for a free trial. Had to forward them their own emails they sent me that confirmed I was offered and took up a free trial.

Absolutely, 100% intentional. Awful company management.

  • Hmm, I've cancelled eBay Plus by phone after an auto renew and received a full refund. No dramas.

  • [email protected]

That's the reply email I dealt with when I cancelled mine. Put your account name/number in the subject line, write that you want to cancel, and see if it goes through.

I cancelled and therefore had no access to ebay plus on my account. They kept charging me. Spent an hour or 2 on chat support to get reimbursed and make sure i was cancelled on their end. Next month, got charged again! Will need to go on chat again to get reimbursed and sorted out again!

    • DODGY! good to know, i will keep an eye for these charges!

  • Hi, once I realised PayPal was getting removed as a payment option (dunno do they make more using their own payment methods) I thought "screw you guys" & tried to cancel.

Was/still an eBay Plus customer - went through delete my account, told 'em why - didn't work. After reading the info page said cancel All subscriptions - thought did I subscribe, dunno.

Turns out eBay Plus is a monthly subscription, so tried to cancel it - was told your subscription will continue for one calendar month. They would say if asked we are helping if you mistakenly cancelled it - but I consider it low range fraud to attempt to make me forget about deleting account again in one month's time.

This was all done through app & chrome on mobile without a phone call so it is possible - just need to search help & look for options down the very bottom. I'll keep an eye on it and make sure my account is deleted fully then.

    • hmm yea it does seem like low range fraud for some of us, thanks for responding!

  • You are joking, aren't you.
You wrote a letter of complaint….
It is evidently clear to everyone that you only needed to contact ebac customer care - its right there and ask them to cancel for you
