Best 3 Knife Set for $250?

Hi blade enthusiasts,
The time has come for me to spend some decent money on some kitchen knives, and I need recommendations.

My needs are simple. I’m a vegetarian. I just want one 20cm cook's 26cm knife, one bread knife, and a small paring knife.

I think $250 is a fair price for decent quality. I don’t want to spend too much less than this but I would consider IKEA knives. My local IKEA doesn’t have Briljera in stock.

Any knowledge appreciated.
Ceramic? Stainless? Damascus? Hammered? Dark? There’s so many options.

You'd get much more value for money buying individual knives, and then you aren't stuck with this "set" that they impose on you. Id stick with stainless, forget everything else you mentioned. I'd get a quality and nice-looking Japanese cook knife, and the bread knife as they're used less often can be pure utility-only. I wouldn't want to pay the extra for a fancy-looking bread knife that would be functionally the same.
    - Gyuto 210mm https://www.knivesandstones.com.au/collections/gyuto-chefs-k…
    - or https://www.knivesandstones.com.au/collections/gyuto-chefs-k…
    - For the bread and pairing I'd go for a victorinox fibrox range of either. They look very basic, but the performance and value is great.

Leftover money spend it on a good sharpening stone in the 600-1000 range and learn how to use it.
the Gyuto can be the nice looking centre-piece and the performance will be excellent. I'm sure the victorinox stuff will perform extremely well, if you are OK to look over their basic appearance.

    • Any recommendations for a 210mm with dimples? Veggies keep getting stuck on the blade. Heard dimples help with it.

  • 20cm is more a utility knife
26-30cm is more versatile as a cooks knife.
Wusthof trident have a variety of price points, worth a look.

    • Absolutely right. I currently use a 26cm unbranded knife that a chef gave me and I use it every day.

  • i waited for someone selling this Wusthof Classic combo cheaply on ebay https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185273639327?hash=item2b232b619f…
did not regret paying for it. excellent quality knives for the uses I have. and will last me 20 years.
i also invested in a blade honer to maintain the edge of the blade.

IMO I'd look at a santoku knife rather than a chef's knife if you're a vegetarian. I love using a santoku knife for cutting veggies, whereas the chef's knife is really good for slicing up bits of meat, cutting around joints, etc.
